We are Minimal Effect, releasing our first album entitled 'Absolute Zero'. We've already recorded and are currently editing four songs. I recently found an old and terrible recording of a song off our demo that I can send to you guys if you want. It's also a rather mellow song, which is incredibly unusual for us.

As far as general sound goes, we tend to fall into the minimalist/experimental/psychedelic rock with a touch of desert rock thrown in. Our influences are Les Claypool, Maynard James Keenan and Josh Homme.

CD is $10 plus shipping and handling if we have to mail it abroad. CD's are going to be locally distributed throughout Ottawa at first and will possibly expand to Montreal and Toronto if sales are good.

If you find the idea of shipping and handling abhorrent, then an e-mail interac transaction or some such thing could be done and we can send you the album digitally. The album has still to be finished in the studio and has to be edited, along with album art, printing, etc.

It's initially going to be a CD release but will be electronic in the future once we get everything set up for purchasing electronically.

Keep in mind, we're young, dumb, Canadians trying to release a self-produced album. Thankfully, this album has received decent support. We already have a fan base and I never thought that would happen.

Ha, that would be impressive but incredibly unlikely.

By the way everybody, today was the final day of principal recording. Now it's on to editing, but all the songs are now recorded and awaiting fine tuning.

Jason, we don't have MySpace. We had one for our last band and it was a resounding "meh". We've had more success through word of mouth and spreading the news around the internet than we did with MySpace, but that's just us.

And now, another update with regards to the album:


- We will cover all shipping and handling costs outside of North America and Britain.

- Depending on the estimates we receive from printing, there will be anywhere in the neighbourhood of 100-150 CD's available for distribution.

- We have also decided in last night's team meeting that we will let people decide what they want to pay for the album, but the $10 cost is still generally inferred since that's the average cost of a small-scale album.

- If you would like to receive the album over the internet, you will have to wait a while until we set up a paypal account among other things. The point is that this will become an option in the not-too-distant future.

Well, we're desert rock influenced/inspired. Compared to our earlier stuff (like our crappy sounding demo from years ago) we've improved a lot and definitely gone in a new direction. I actually can't wait until I get a song to distribute so everyone can hear what we sound like now.
