Another one of my favorites is Jackey Yoshikawa and the Blue Comets, who were a Japanese garage band from the early 60's. They made such an impact with hit after hit that they were asked to appear on the Ed Sullivan Show.
This clip was from many decades later (from what I was told) after one of their members took his own life rather than face the certainty that he would be totally blind for his remaining years.
At the time of this performance, they were one of Japan's national treasures. They could still prove, at an elderly age, they still had it. I think the audience agreed with them.
