Cops, Lies, And Videotape

$1:
In 2006, RCMP Const. Joseph Kohut kicked down the door to his ex’s home in Prince George, B.C., and left with certain belongings. His ex said that one of the things Kohut took was a videotape showing him sexually harassing an underage Indigenous girl. Kohut had already been investigated for sexual misconduct after a local judge pled guilty to sexually assaulting several Indigenous minors. Kohut’s ex, also a Mountie, reported the alleged theft of evidence. So what happened next? Reporter Jessica McDiarmid tells the story of 16-years of entropy and indifference within the RCMP

One Judge and 9 RCMP officers sexually assaulting native girls for decades.

Retired judge to review Edmonton police interactions with accused before Chinatown killings

$1:
Hung Trang, 64, and Ban Phuc Hoang, 61, men who had worked in Chinatown for decades, were killed in the unprovoked beatings on May 18.

Justin Bone was arrested the same day, near where the separate attacks had happened. He is charged with two counts of second-degree murder.

Three days earlier, following an unrelated assault call in Alberta Beach — 70 kilometres northwest of Edmonton — Parkland RCMP officers dropped Bone off in west Edmonton in contravention of bail conditions that prohibited him from being in the city unsupervised.

It is bad enough that this happened in the first place. The fact that the victim is still facing criminal charges after being brutally assaulted is fucking insane. Not only should he not be facing any charges but several of those police officers should be sitting in a jail cell today facing felony charges. The supervisor who reviewed the beating and said that he did not see anything wrong with how the police handled it should be in the same jail cell facing twice the amount of time behind bars. This stinks from the cop on the beat all the way up to the prosecutor. The feds need to get involved ASAP.

Odds are this will go yo Ontario's Special Investigation Unit, which will review and hopefully recommend dismissing the charges.

Whatever happens, it's ridiculous that police are still being called out for medical distress incidents when their track record is so awful, which often leads to injuries and in some cases, deaths of the patient.
