The same could be said for much of France at one time.

Hey, you opened the door with your idiotic post.

All we did was show you the error of your ways.

Are you under 12 years old?

You certainly aren't furthering your cause by acting in a similar fashion yourself...

The Strike Eagle didn't show up until the late 80's or 90's. The original Eagle (A and C models) was air to air only.

That could be one more bidder. The point is we need a competitive bid, not just select the F-35 because the Americans want to sell it.

Moot point, Canada doesn't employ the HARM missile.

Not moot; taking out anti-aircraft defences is what a stealth fighter is all about. Since the F-35 can't do that mission, it's stealth is useless. We may as well keep our existing CF-18s.

Ps. Thank you for staying on topic.

It's not the plane the "Americans" want to sell, more the plane Lockheed wants to sell. I'm sure Boeing would be thrilled if we bought something else.

FYI you don't NEED the HARM missile to destroy a SAM site. A Laser Guided Bomb or Maverick (both weapons in our inventory) will have the same end result.

What are the real vice armchair fighter pilots saying? IIRC there was a big issue with pilots transitioning from NA airliners to Euro models, something about cockpit layout and simple things like push vs pull switches causing confusion. Is there a NATO Standard for stuff in cockpits?

Trust is a matter of degree. I would love to see more trade with Russia.

A couple years ago the Russian federal minister of trade came to Winnipeg to promote a trade route between Winnipeg and Minsk.

In February 2002, Manitoba and Krasnoyarsk (a region in Northern Russia) signed a Letter of Intent to work toward a Memorandum of Understanding for further cooperation and follow-up activities on polar air route development. MIT continues to meet and work with Russian officials to advance this initiative.

I think you're talking about this, which is part of the CentrePort stuff that is happening here.

That's the problem Sapper. Not only is it wrenches etc, it's ground power units, refuelling hook-ups, tyres or tires, batteries on a 210 or 240 charge instead of 110 etc.

When we deployed to a CF or US unit, none of our stuff was interchangable. NATO standard exists in the US and Canada only.

Exactly but there are some who believe all you need to do is buy a metric set of wrenches and you`re off.

Any European fighter is not an option. Retooling and re-equipping everyday fasteners alone would be a nightmare and add to the cost.

Retooling and re-equipping is required for any new fighter, including the F-35. The only plane that can use tools from our CF-18 Hornet, is the SuperHornet. By the way, Boeing wants to sell us SuperHornets. They promised all work would be done at the Boeing plant in Winnipeg.

Until Quebec finds out and is awarded the contract, history repeats itself.
