..............Dependency in the Nanny State

The status quo of the nanny state isn’t very controversial with the public. Basically it’s Group Insurance. It’s high quality insurance so it’s expensive. For the most part the middle class insures family. Family is only close family as well. This is pretty extensive in a life time if you think about it: the parents, the grandparents, the spouse, the children, the grandchildren, the siblings and sometimes their children and ditto for the in-laws. (It’s interesting the grandparents to grandchildren connection that touches an individual ranges over 200 years of history typically.) And as with insurance you don't really ever want to collect. The better off are asked to pay for the worst off, they are asked to tithe. The very rich pay for the whole system from which they profit. The taxes to pay for all the social programs are accepted, they are intrusive but not theft. This is what people think

very flowery and poetic Bruce, but wrong. :)

Grandparents never paid enough into the system, parents now have to make up
the difference by paying more.

Parents now abuse the system by running to the doctor for every sniffle and scraped knee.

Kids will be completely screwed, but no one cares cause they dont vote.

In laws come into the system too late, pay very little in
but yet claim full benefit, the rest of the 'family' pay for that.

People think the very rich pay, but the fact is they don't.
The middle shoulders for both ends.

People accept taxes, but too often those monies are stolen anyway.

I only wish people would get more upset about that.

Well, the tax load is very high. I don't have kids and I am always amazed at how middle class families that do afford the basics. So, yeah it has all the problems you mention.
