Here is a sequence of events that needs to be investigated:

a. Just before the last election, the RCMP announces that it is investigating the leak of the policy regarding income trusts. This 'leak' was deduced from the sudden investments which profited from the price changes that happened when the policy was announced.

b. Harper benefits like hell. Paul Martin loses about 25 seats, and Harper forms a minority government.

c. The RCMP Commissioner is in trouble particularly due to the legal work of Liberal MP Cotler.

d. Harper goes to great lengths to keep the commissioner.

e. Harper creates a series of ads in Quebec, using the Income Trust theme, accusing Liberals of being under investigation. The ad campaign is suspicious, since it is carefully done BEFORE any election is announced, so that the source of the money is out of the scrutiny of the Election Commissioner.

f. Finally, Harper eases the RCMP Commissioner out under huge public protest.

g. Harper runs his ad campaign, just before this day.

h. Today, the RCMP finds that the leak was from the Finance bureaucrats, themselves, and the Liberals are not involved.

What was the role played by Harper in all this? Why did he run the ads, when he would have known the RCMP findings? Why did he hesitate to withdraw the false ads?

Goes before the liberal packed courts
Gets his pinky slapped
His punishment is a suspended sentence or most likely probation
