Thanks for pointing out the lack of citation fifeboy. The comic was made back when Chrétien was PM, a year before he left office. Heck, by that time, he'd been in power for so long he probably could have crowned himself.

The English-Canadian in me supports it for lack of any republican zeal whatsoever, but without any attachment to any current or future monarchs. My favourite king is George VI, and has been since long before that movie came out. I collect every piece of Canadian coinage I find with his image on it and I got a photo of me next to his giant portrait in the House of Commons. G-6 for life!

The Quebecker in me thinks that if or when Quebec eventually becomes independent, it should of course be a republic.
