After reading a lot about the ongoing dispute between Canada and Denmark over Hans Island, I think I have been told about the single most brilliant reaction/coverage/whatever on this situation.
I have heard this is from a DeAdder (?) Editorial Cartoon in today's Halifax Daily News. I think, but I'm not certain DeAdder stuff appears elsewhere as well.
Anyway. I will never refer to a certain small, pie-type thing as a 'Danish' again. From now on it will be 'Freedom Pastry'.
Pass it on.

My plan is that Canada gives the island to Denmark since they want it so bad. In return, Canada gets Greenland.

What about Great Danes? I propose they be now known as Great Bigguns.

Nice.
But my plan would be that Canada gives Denmark Hans Island, and
in return, Denmark has to keep it.

Actually the breed originated in Germany and is known in Germany and France as the German Mastiff. No one where the Dane part came from.

I was hearing on CBC that Denmark has taken an interest in the island because there may be oil there.
Along the same lines, there have also been a substantial increase of unidentified submarine sightings in the Arctic Ocean b/c the ice caps are melting, making many route easier to pass by submarines now.

Nyet,
if they want to own Hans Island, the have to take the Lac St-Jean area with them too (Which includes Quebec ex-premiers Parapig and bernard "blame it on the immigrants" Landry.. )Then its fair.

On a little more serious side than previously posted...
Canada cannot afford to give in the island, Canada cedes this island, than where won't we cede.. Where will it end.. We already have northern territorial disputes with the americans who would love to take advantage of the land.. Exploit it if you will..
If the waters do open up, and a profitable route appears to asia.. Then Hell.. wouldn't you want all that extra revenue being placed into the Canadian economy?? Hell ya!!.. that would open up the north substantially.
The Canadian government already realizes how much we will lose if we cede the island, that is why they are ignoring the Danish requests..
The Canadian government, with operation Narwhal, wants to prove to those who want to exploit our sovereign land that we will defend it, what a great start by letting Denmark have an island that was given to us in 1867 as part of the BNA act.., where will it end?? Canada cannot afford to lose this little island.. we must ensure we keep it at all costs.. IT is Visa Versa for the danish people, they too will lose far more than their pride from this little island, it is important, and has economic priority.. Canada MUST PROTECT ITS NORTHERN SOVEREIGNTY.. GO HANS ISLAND FOR CANADA.. The best way for canada to argue its use as Canadian is to make use of it.. set up research, or something, some sort of perminant presense, that would ensure the island stays ours.. what is denmark going to do.. kick us out? If they do, that is undoubtedly and act of aggression, thereby allowing us to defend ourselvse... MUHAUAHAHAHHA
On a lighter note.. BOO TO DENMARK, and YEAH TO CANADIAN'S PROTECTING ORU SOVEREINGTY.. i won't mind paying a little less in taxes to the already enourmous healthcare and education sectors and pay a little more if it means protecting canadian interests for the future.. doign what is best not for me, or poor old homeless joe-blow... but doing wat is best for the generations of our beautiful people to come..
