I like McKay and I think most Canadians probably like him as well. I'm not sure he's PM material though. He's just too nice a guy.

True, but then again, this country sure could use a little civility and class at the helm.

You know, another candidate for the Conservative Party is Peter MacKay. He was the leader of the last standing Progressive Conservatives and is centre of the road. The reason I personnally think he has potential is because I sent him some bad economic statistics on Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver and he writes me that he forward the data to the Immigration Minister, indicating he "got" the problem. Most of Parliament is not very economically astute, is not good at politics is economics in Canada. It's real clear this is the case with Harper. So, Peter MacKay has potential, potential to be a Liberal slayer.

Harper should just quit. He's fought three elections and is doing middling. I've heard he's not that stuck on being The Big Cheese and the Party needs a new leader to move ahead and reunit Canada.

MacKay wouldn't make it in Quebec, no chance at all. On fact, anybody from the CPC wouldn't make it in Quebec. The only two parties who can a lot of vote here is the Bloc, obviously, and the LPC. Sadly, NPD isn't strong enough. Bloc and NPD should fuse...

Charest in the LPC would probably help getting vote in Quebec. Personnaly, I would LOVE Tobin too.

And for the dude who said that Charest had the charisma of a wet sock... The dude get re-elected after the Sponsorship scandal. In Quebec. Even against a bunch of angry, angry independantists. Seriously, think about that.

We could talk lengthily about Alberta's sad, predictable political culture if we wanted to, but I personally wouldn't want to judge an entire province based on the minority of people there who actually vote.

Wouldn't be much of a discussion. I am thouroughly disgusted and disillusioned with the complete political spectrum here as well!

I'd vote for him.

If nothing else, I commend Charest for taking the bullet and returning to the province to keep them in the fold. Without him as premier, they might have separated already.

Charest is a good dude. He was for years in the Right Wings, but since he's the prime in Quebec, I see it more in the center.

He's from Sherbrooke, where I'm from too.

Charest's an interesting guy to consider as a leadership candidate. He's been both a Liberal and a Conservative, so he could pull a lot of moderate swing votes. As a proven Provincial Premier, he may also be able to swing some Bloc votes his way. Given the Cons inability to garner any support in Quebec, he should be especially attractive to Conservatives as a successor to Harper. He'd make a very good Liberal candidate for similar reasons. I don't think we've heard the last of Jean Charest in Canadian Federal politics.

I personally think Ralph Klein would be a better sucessor to Harper, but many provinces don't love him the way Albertans do.

Ralphie was worth a laugh from time to time, like when he fell down the steps getting off the airplane, drunk. Or when Belinda Stronach switched teams and he said "She never had a Conservative bone in her...well, one." Or when he threatened to invoke the notwithstanding clause over same-sex marriages. He's kind of like Alberta's answer to John Crosby. But Canada has lots of younger and more able alcoholics than Klein or Crosby.[B-o]
