Despite being a "partisan hack", I like this guy and think that one day, he could make a good run for PM.

However, I think it's too soon for him to make this jump.

The Liberals were critical of Harper not having the experience to be in the PM's chair and then the CPC took aim at Dion with the "Not a Leader" advertisements.

Justin is a drama teacher turned MP and frankly he is where he is because of his last name. That's fine, it happens often but he needs to work to prove himself beyond his last name.

He needs more years under his belt and more time to get his feet wet. He has a good image and a great connection with young voters.

Agree with everything you said, OTI.
But maybe he's just testing the waters.

I have a good feeling that if he tests the waters, he'll win.

I also predict that if he does win as leader, he'll be our next PM.

Not a good electoral outcome but still preferable to the separatist-tainted NDP.

I've said this before, but the problem with Justin Trudeau is that he's just not the "chip off the old block" that Liberals and progressives wish he were. Love or hate Pierre Trudeau, he was a genius and a great leader. People are expecting Justin to be like RFK was to JFK. They expect him to be Michael Corleone in the Godfather, ready and able to take over for the dead don. But Justin Trudeau isn't Michaeal Corleone. He's Fredo.

I agree with your last sentence but referring to Trudeau senior as a genius is mind-boggling. 8O

He's likeable, speaks well and has a good image that isn't tied to the scandals of the Chretien/Martin era.

Never underestimate the "Fredo's" of the World...ask George W. how that worked out for him.

Trudeau Sr. was highly intelligent but his intellectual strength was negated by his other task in life of being a hardcore ideologue. By the late 1970's it was apparent to anyone who bothered to pay attention that the centralized big government socialist-lite agenda that the Liberals were engaging in was a failure, and that it was sowing the seeds to eventually bankrupt the country. Trudeau's hubris, and the fact that he'd been long blinded by the cult of personality that surrounded him, dictated that Canada wouldn't budge from the disasterous path he'd set us on. Trudeau wasn't stupid, but I don't see by what standard his government can't only be seen as a colossal failure.

Economically, Trudeau had his failures. Likewise, his centralist/federalist vision upset people regionally, particularly Albertans and Quebeckers. But his successes outweigh his failures. He led us through the difficult recession of the 70s and quelled the biggest domestic crisis in our nation's history. But Trudeau's greatness comes from the way he changed Canada. Before Trudeau, we were a biggoted society, bullied by our government. Trudeau wrestled power from the legislature and gave it to the people through the Charter of Rights. And while that has had its failings as well has, in totality, been the single best step forward our nation has ever taken. He also began the immigration process that would see the French separatist movement in Quebec emasculated.

I undertand the criticisms of Trudeau, but to call the path he put Canada on "disastrous" is hyperbole that does't gel with reality. Canada is a better place now than in 1968 and Trudeau deserves a measure of credit in that.

Let's pray Justin wins.

It'll be dream come true. For Stephen Harper.

Something like Dion or Iggy.

Unlikely. It'll more likely mean an actual slog.

Well, on the plus side, the kids becomming more like Daddy every day.

Islamic conference sponsor pulls out as Trudeau under fire

Has anybody ever thought that despite his name maybe Justin just isn't cut out to be the next Prime Minister of Canada. [huh]

Besides IMO anyone who claims Paul Hellyer as a mentor needs some serious work before they'll ever garner a vote from the ex military people of my generation. :D

And the partisan howling on each side will reach new heights.

or lows, as the case may be.

Just what the country needs, more devisiveness.

No divisiveness in Cuba, China or North Korea. They are all of same political opinion. No election problems.

I guess it's easier to go through life without the need for critical thinking.
