Quote:
Keith Beardsley:

The Liberal campaign must know something that voters can only guess at- namely Ignatieff’s campaign must be in deep trouble.

Just like in a football game with the seconds ticking away to end the game, the Liberals have tried a Hail Mary pass. The Liberals are trotting out both Jean Chretien and Paul Martin to campaign along side Michael Ignatieff in the hope that they can give his campaign a boost.
Conservatives and probably the NDP as well, should thank the Liberals for bringing these two out. Seeing these two former PMs back on the campaign trail will only serve to remind Tory supporters and Canadians in general of why they threw the Liberals out in the first place.

Thank you for reminding us of:

•Mr Dithers, all promise no action
•Tax havens
•A PM strangling a demonstrator
•The APEC riots
•The decade of darkness for the military
•Sending poorly equipped troops to Afghanistan
•Those venerable Sea Kings
•The slashing of provincial transfer payments
•And let’s not forget Gomery and the sponsorship scandal
•Missing millions and envelopes stuffed with money
The other added bonus is that the media profile of these former PMs will dominate poor Iggy who will be standing there in their shadows. A great way to remind Canadians that he doesn’t measure up to previous Liberal leaders.

Yes this was a very smart move on the part of the Liberals. Thank you so much for reminding our supporters that they had better turn out and vote or they could be stuck with the likes of those two again.

Interesting how it completely misses the fact that the liberals are also the source of recovery from the worst peace time deficit in Canadian history, solidified our banking system so that when Harper did nothing we were still stable, entered a war due to being allied to a nation entering it while sitting our Iraq, and various other tasks. Harper would likely have brought out some too but the last good Conservative was Diefenbaker.

meh, just shows that Martin and Chretien are actually not Hated or a liability. Harper couldn't rely on Mulroney(couple reasons) to put him over the top, so you won't see him trying.

The Chretien chokehold isn't really seen as a bad thing by most people.

That may be true but I have a major fucking problem with how they did it.

They took 30 billion, not million, out of the PSAC, RCMP and DND pension funds to pay it down then had the gall to pass a bill that made it illegal for any other corporation to do the same thing.

As the matter of fact the Government, now Conservative is still in court battling over whether they have to pay it back or not, while the people who contribute to that pension fund are being asked to pay more to keep the fund afloat. Something they wouldn't have had to do if that money had been left in it.

Sure, they may have paid down the defict but they did a large portion of it on the backs of the people who work for them.

Nice people eh, and don't even get me started on the health care cuts they introduced to help balance their budget.

Is that why I have to pay into it for 25 years to get the same pension my sgt is going to get after he's only been in for 20?

Bingo.

But just to be fair, everyone including your Sargent is paying more and pretty much ensures indexing will never exceed more than 2.5 percent no matter what the economy does.

And you get to do it using a smaller funding base. The pension funding based on the 80-100k manning level days is toast.
