I've been reading negative opinions (and that's mild) on other places about the budget and cuts etc. This piece reaffirms my thinking that people are not always up on what is actually going on as the media doesn't always report everything. Here we see that in this area food Inspectors have actually increased.

Expect roadkill to reach dinner table: NDP
OTTAWA - New figures show fears spread by public sector unions and their NDP political friends that budget cuts and regulatory changes will contaminate Canada's food supply are as ridiculous as melted cheese on ice cream.
Since the Conservatives took office in 2006, the number of inspectors has increased every year at the Canadian Food Inspection Agency.
The government website that keeps track of employees at the CFIA shows 2,823 field inspectors were among 6,121 employees at the agency in 2006.
That number jumped to 2,914 in 2007, 3,030 in 2008, 3,228 in 2009, 3,342 in 2010, 3,502 in 2011 and 3,534 in March this year.
In total, 7,291 people work for the CFIA, according to the latest numbers.
Opposition MPs have seized on proposed budget cuts that call for $56 million in reductions over three years at the CFIA.
What they don't say is that the budget proposes another $51.2 million over two years for the CFIA, the Public Health Agency of Canada and Health Canada to enhance surveillance and early detection of food-borne illness.
