Come on. Now who wasn't paying attention in history class? The Americans not only fought in the European theatre, but practically single-handedly took on the Imperial Japanese in the Pacific. And just for the record - look up American Lend-Lease and tell me how much the USSR received for its fight in the East?
Japan wasn't much of a foe, it was very one sided, Japan couldn't even bomb Pearl Harbour right, the big U.S carriers weren't even there
Huh? They seemed to being just fine up until Midway! And the carriers weren't the targets of the Pearl strike, it was designed to cripple U.S. fleet. In the contemporary context, the battleship was the pride of the navy, it was only after the U.S. lost this ability, briefly after '41, that airpower was used, and realized as the true projection of power.
