I realize this makes me sound like an elitist snob or someone with a superiority complex or whatever, but I just have to say it.
The Americans that are on this board are stellar folks who seem to be intelligent, well educated and outgoing people who are interested in global affairs and what makes the world tick and how it effects their own world. I love reading their posts and how they express themselves in discussions here and I'd be happy to have any one of them as a neighbour in the house next door to me.
As to the the majority of Americans/media and the question you posed in your OP - They don't see it as a snub. They just aren't interested and don't care, it's not important to them, that is all. If it isn't seen as a threat to them and it isn't about America then nothing anywhere else is important unless it effects their acquisition of global oil supplies and the supply and cost of their food and toys. That is just the way it is. They don't see it as a snub, how can they snub or even bother to bring attention to something that isn't considered a threat and doesn't really exist or matter to the majority?
You have no idea how many times I've been told by average and honest but not very 'worldly' Americans on other forums that Canada and Canadian affairs are of no consequence to the general populace and they just simply aren't interested. Canada isn't in their vocabulary. It's just a cold, empty place in the north that they don't know much about and don't care to know about unless it's something that can be criticized because it might pose a threat to them.
In my opinion - it's just as well. I prefer it that way. The less interest and attention they focus on Canada's social, cultural and political affairs and it's economy and resources the better it is for Canada and Canadian citizens.
Think about it. Do you really want American media and American people focusing a lot of attention on Canada?
