Subject: Open Government online consultation / Consultation en ligne sur l'initiative Gouvernement ouvert
Last March, the Government of Canada announced its commitment to enhancing openness, transparency and accountability to Canadians through its Open Government initiative. More recently, on September 20, 2011, Canada announced its intention to join the international Open Government Partnership (OGP) in April 2012.
To ensure that the Government of Canada’s plans for advancing Open Government consider the priorities of Canadians, the Honourable Tony Clement, President of the Treasury Board and Minister responsible for FedNor, launched an online consultation on Open Government earlier today.
As Chief Information Officer for the Government of Canada, I am writing today to invite you to participate in this consultation and share your input with us via the Open Government Consultation website until January 16, 2012.
Through this public consultation process, we are seeking the views of Canadians on the federal government’s approach to open government in the areas of open data, open information, and open dialogue. All input received during this consultation will be carefully considered as we develop our open government plans and commitments. A final report on consultations will be released in March 2012.
I invite you to take a moment to visit the Open Government website at
http://www.open.gc.ca, where we will be posting comments received on a daily basis. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Stephen Walker ().
Yours truly,
