Once more Parrish puts her head up her ass (funny I thought it was permenantly lodged there) and condemns Canadian actions in Afghanistan, referring to Hillier as full of testosterone and basically that our troops are killers. She's run out of insults for the Americans, so now she's turned on her own. Why are the press even giving this DB any air time , either than just for sensationalism?
Parrish Calls Top Soldier 'Dangerous' Josh Pringle Tuesday, July 26, 2005 8:48 PM
Canada's top military soldier is offering no apologies for his blunt talk.
Independent M-P Carolyn Parrish calls Chief of Defence Staff General Rick Hillier "dangerous" and "testosterone-fuelled" for saying the job of Canadian soldiers is to be able to kill people.
Hillier says he isn't concerned about Parrish's comments: "I'm not offended at all. I have a job to do, and I'm concentrated on doing that job."
Hillier was speaking in Edmonton as 110 soldiers left for Afghanistan on a reconstruction mission.

1st Love the pic of homer.
2nd You said Parrish denigrates the troops in the title of the thread. I looked up the article and I didn't see where she attacks the troops. Did she?
3rd Saying the role of the troops is to kill oversimplification. I expect that sort of grandstanding in the WWF not a CNC he's an officer and he should get flack because he should know that such grandstanding by an authority figure is irresponsible. I appreciate the telling it like it is spirit of the message, believe me, but he has an obligation as well to not grandstand to further his career as he is standing on the backs of real hero's when he is up there and they are the ones in harms way when the shit hits, not him.

You want to talk about Grandstanding? How about Parish's "Grandstanding" by stomping on a President Bush doll, calling Yanks "Bastards", criticizing Canada's head of the military, etc.
Parish is a total flake and only says what she does because it appeals to the sizable Muslim community in her Mississauga riding. That's not just grandstanding, it's shameless racial politics. General Hillier on the other hand is just showing something called frank and honest "Leadership", something not seen at the upper echelons of the Canadian Forces in generations.
Of course, that kind of decisiveness upsets Canada's weak-kneed idealists. They just can't take the idea that Canadian soldiers might actually be used to kill someone rather than drive around the Third World handing out aid packages, all while being culturally sensitive and gender equitable of course.
Fortunately Scape, you're a minority. It was significant that try as the media might, the only quotes they could find critical of the General came from Maude Barlow of the Council of Canadians, the Polaris Institute, and Parish. If those idiots are Hillier's Critics, then he's obviously on the right path.

Forgive me but it's just too good to miss.
She's a grandstanding looser that's looking for re-election. I'd bet that without buckets of Liberal money, she'd deader than Grewal.

Why is it that Bush, the alleged 'moron', still has his job while all of these geniuses seem to keep losing theirs?
If a moron is consistently beating them all at every turn, then what are they? Inbred, slack-jawed cretins?

When I was in the Forces, I wouldn't have agreed if any officer, never mind the Chief Of Defence Staff (CDS), said my job was to kill people. Yes, there were(are) certain situations where soldiers/airmen/sailors would have to be prepared to kill, but that is RARELY the only mission objective. It's called the Department of Defence not Offense (look it up if you don't believe me). The only people who would go in thinking that, having to kill is the only possible/acceptable outcome are terrorists (or undercover London cops).
This reminds me of President Bush saying "Bring 'em on", as if he was trying to goad the enemy into attacking Americans. Brave words for someone sitting in an office 7500 miles away from the fighting ('course his record when it comes to actually fighting for his country is well known). Personally, I don't want our 'top soldier' acting like some doofus wannabe-cowboy.
Carrolyn Parrish. She's a waste of skin. At the end of last week, the Lib's were considering allowing her to rejoin caucus. This week they're probably leaning towards rescinding her party membership.

*opens can of worms*
Todays troops support General Hillier to the fullest. He is by far the most blunt and truthful General that we have had in a long time (this is from some members that have served almost 20 years not myself). I believe that there was no grandstanding in his statements. Canadian Soldiers ARE NOT peacekeepers first and foremost our primary role is the defense of Canada and if that means killing then that is what happens. I know for a fact that in the future in my line of work I may be called upon to kill people. The primary role of the infantry is to close with and destroy the enemy. Ergo, to kill people.....

When I was a Marine I would've disagreed with anyone who told me that my job was to hand out aid packages to jackasses in Somalia and etc. who were simultaneously trying to kill me. I'd have not only told him to get bent, I'd have bitch-slapped him and then shot him and then my CO would've probably punished me by promoting me a grade and giving me another stripe.
Marines break things and kill people.
Maybe Canada should fire the social workers in the Army and hire some soldiers instead.

C'mon, you don't really consider Dubya to be anything but a well-managed puppet do you?
Intelligent? This is a man who speaks english at a level which would embarrass a second-grader (must be that misundereducation of his).
The guys calling the shots like to stay out of the limelight. Do names like Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfovitz, Ashcroft or Perle ring any bells? Check out their "old boys club" sometime, it's called the Project For A New American Century (PNAC) and they were planning and calling for the attacks on Afghanistan and Iraq as far back as 1992.

Gosh, you must be proud! Without fine upstanding citizen's like yourself where would "terrorists" look for inspiration? They'd have to claim that they hate your freedom and prosperity as the excuse for blowing-up buildings and killing innocent people. Good thing there's folks like you to give them a real reason to kill. It must be heartening to be their role model.

Hillier is a smart guy. He also is a highly educated man. The troops do have confidence in him, but he is grandstanding somewhat. You can be blunt and truthful but you don't have to sound like a rube doing it. Putz is right about the role of the infantry (BTW it's close with and destroy... not close in), but the CDS saying the Army's job is to kill people is disingenuous. The job is to carry out the tasks assigned by the government, whatever that may entail.
Bottomline: Hillier is a General trying to sound like an RSM.
