As an Anglophone living in Quebec that is music to my ears.
I have been for more years than I care to remember been fighting for my rights in this Province.
Leaving is not an option for me, many a friend and family have taken the 401 and have not come back.
Talk about your ethnic cleansing
I will stay here and fight for my rights to the end.
These separatists are at each other’s throats right now but soon will come out of their holes and start pushing for their agenda to be put forward again.
Fortunately more and more young Quebecois are rethinking their choices.
And are not as apposed to the Canadian fact as their fathers were.
This generation travel more and get to see more of this and other countries.
And once you do that it becomes very clear that Canada is not such a bad place to be.

English is everywhere in Canada, so francophones have to protect themselves and that's why people voted for BLOC so much at the last elections, it's not only a separatist thing. Better look somewhere else aside a PARTY who gets a whole bunch more votes than the NPD (oops aren't they all over canada??)

I'm curious why the french in Quebec need all the federal money. Many immigrant groups in Canada are just as proud of their heritage as the french are, the difference is they raise their own money to celebrate the fact! I'm sorry you feel that way vinchenzo but in reality the french in Quebec have it extremely good in Canada, those who think they are being mistreated are in reality acting like spoiled little kids!

I have said this before elsewhere but the fact there is a language police enforcing what language and the size of it on the front window is a losing argument.It says to me that it has tobe forced and that is a road neither the right or left on this site wants togo down.

In fact, i don't know what money you're talking about because quebec doesn't use any federal money on a promotional purpose of any kind...
And there's another thing I'd like to say: the french culture is an official culture of canada so the situation of immigrants has nothing to do with it

Can you justify a language police?
People are being investigated for language crimes.There is no way this is the right way to keep a culture safe.Enforcing people to live a certain way was a mistake when the Natives were forced to change their ways and it is a mistake now.

The Quebec Government regularly used the Federal governments money any way they want.
The fact that they take it out of another pot and then replace that money with the feds is not lost on anyone.

The taping over of signs that have been outlawed in Quebec by the language police (Like English was a disease that must be stamped out.) is everywhere and stands as a grim reminder of how your rights can be sold out.

The laws about whom can and who can’t attend English schools is a good indicator of how safe your rights are in this country.
Quebec the only Province that is allowed control of immigration?
Francophone is given priority over Anglophones or anyone else.
And if you come from another country and are English speaking your children HAVE to attend a French school like it or not.

The fact is French is a language not a culture seems to be lost on the separatist.
FRENCH is not doing well even in France it is in fact a dieing language
But the separatist will not be happy until only French is spoken in Quebec.
And after stepping all over English rights with the helping hand of Ottawa and the not withstanding clause.

Should the PQ and the BQ be branded as traitors and banned? NO! This would give credibility to their claim that Quebec is mistreated by Canada. In a democracy you have to accept that people have different ways of seeing things, even though that can be pretty annoying at times.

Is French a "dying language" in Quebec? NO! The evidence to the contrary is overwhelming.

In fact the authorities in France are very worried about the state of the French language worldwide.
And more specifically the state of the language in France, Paris to be more exact.
The influx from the Eastern block and Middle Eastern countries into France is (to use there term) eroding the French language.

These people are not in the minority as seen in the fact that there Francophone meetings and a francophone Olympic.
In Quebec there is an asserted effort to bring down the use of the English language.
The Provincial Police force is made up of a disproportionately French Quebeckers, as is the Montreal force. As is the Government and most if not all government appointed positions in the province.

If you start your own company you can not name that company a English name you can’t even use an apostrophe in the name such as in Ralph’s

Your children have to be very careful as to witch educational system they choose for their children. If they choose the French school system then your great grandchildren cannot attend an English school and from that point your family is locked into the French school system.

All new emigrants must attend French school they have no choice. (Not very Canadian)

The whole system is set up to grind down the English population and through time eliminate it altogether.

And they are using our money to do it.
Then they rip up our votes and when they still lose they cry the English and the damn emergent.
To them there are only one people in this country French.
The rest of us have no culture or history worth talking about.

Don’t buy the crap that there is anything wrong with what is going on in Quebec.

The not withstanding clause is undermining this country.

You can’t guarantee the rights of anyone if with the stork of a pen you pull out the not withstanding clause and say everyone but them, any time but now, everywhere but here.

I agree with most of your last post, Ralph, with the exception of your suggestion that middle-eastern immigrants to France pose a mortal threat to the survival of the French language. France has definitely failed to integrate these immigrants sufficiently, but most of them do learn to speak French.

Wherever there are Francos there will be people worrying about the future of the language. In France, it's the Academie Francaise, in Quebec it the Office de la Langue Francaise. But let's face it Ralph, French isn't about to disappear in Quebec. They have been far too successful "grind(ing) down the English population", as you correctly stated. In short, I could be wrong but I think you are contradicting yourself when you claim that French is a dying language but then reproach Francos for enacting measures to protect it!

As far as the language wars in Quebec are concerned, the truth is they were fought 25-30 years ago and like it or not, Anglos were the clear losers. It's something which we have to accept and come to terms with.
In other words, we have to get over it!! Otherwise we'll end up like the Francos, still bitching and whining about the Conquest 250 years ago.
Let's look to the future instead of dwelling on the past...
