What I find very annoying (on a small client basis) is that if I want to mail something to someone in town, it costs me just as much as when I mail it to someone at the other side of the country, while it doesn't leave the post office.
That's the idea of a postal system - it's supposed to bind the country together. If you had to pay different rates, you'd be complaining about how much it costs to mail somebody in Tuktoyaktuk.

I want mail that doesn't leave the post office, and they only have to walk 2 steps for to put it in the mailboxes, to be free of charge.
Because we do not have home delivery, we don't give out street addresses, so you can't bring it and throw it in the door.

Since that was my first post I was pleasantly surprised to see so many responses. Thank you all. I should clarify a little: My idea of privatizing Canada Post applies to only urban delivery of parcels. I recognize that there is a national unity issue which requires that every address in Canada have access to Canada Post letter and envelope delivery, which is not bad overall, and quite a bargain. What I have a problem with is Canada Post parcel delivery carriers who come to my door while I am home, leave a notice in my mail box, and leave. They never, never, never knock on my door. I have complained many times years ago and finally gave up complaining. I never have a problem with private courier services; they always knock on my door. I work from home and my desk is about 16 feet from the door. I even hear when someone knocks on my neighbour's door! (I live in a townhouse.) I can hear even a kid's light tap on my door, (like when kids come around selling something for their school), from anywhere in the house, even the basement. It is not the case that I just do not hear the parcel carrier's tap on my door. My regular letter carrier has knocked on my door to deliver registered letters -- no problem. But, the parcel carrier does not! Why do they not knock? Forgive me for my initial rant, but I was really angry, having just experienced the no-knock notice shortly before.

So print enough for every mailbox in town, don't address them and pay 10.5c each. Yer five year old won't walk two steps for 59c.

That doesn't make any sense at all. I don't NEED everyone in town to get one, or I would bring it door to door, and, no matter if I pay 59c or not, no matter if she takes those 2 steps or not, she will get paid anyway.

You get the notice on your door? hahaha In my area, they don't even do that. I get the 'attempted delivery' notice in my super mailbox, several KM away. They are more than happy to take the 'Express Deivery door to door' fees, but they won't deliver door to door. For that, there is UPS. (Because neither do Purolator or FedEx)

Actually one delivery service that has been kind of over looked on this thread is Greyhound's parcel delivery. They're actually really good and they're fairly inexpensive compared to UPS or FedEx.

You have to pick it up at their place of business tho, which for me, is 15 kms away...
