This really hacked me off when I saw it and in view of the London bombing murders I think it merits discussion.

Sacha Trudeau helping accused terrorist Almrei
Canadian Press 27th June 2005
TORONTO — An accused terrorist is getting some high-profile support in Federal Court.
Syrian national Hassan Almrei has been held in solitary confinement since October 2001 and wants to be released while Ottawa assesses whether he poses a security threat.
Among his supporters are Alexandre (Sacha) Trudeau, who has offered a $5,000 bond.
In an affidavit presented to the court, Trudeau says he is concerned about Almrei's lengthy detention in solitary confinement.
Trudeau is also confident Almrei will comply with the conditions of a release order.
Other supporters include writers Naomi Klein and Avi Lewis, who have offered a $200 bond, and journalist Heather Mallick, who has offered a $100 bond.
Lewis and Klein say they don't know Almrei, but they attended a fundraiser earlier this year with other prominent Canadian writers like Stuart McLean and Linda McQuaig.
The fundraiser was meant to help people being held under national security certificates.
Almrei is one of five men being held on security certificates since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States.
All five argue they face torture if they are sent back to their homelands.
CSIS says it considers the men to be threats to national security because of suspected ties to terrorist groups.

TORONTO (CP) - Alexandre Trudeau says he's doing it for his country.
The son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau spoke out Tuesday against Canada's extraordinary use of security certificates to detain suspected terrorists, telling a Federal Court the oft-criticized measure is not right.
Trudeau took the stand on behalf of accused terrorist Hassan Almrei, a Syrian national who has been held in solitary confinement nearly four years for alleged contact with al-Qaida members.
Trudeau told the court he would be willing to be one of several people designated to accompany Almrei whenever he leaves home if he is granted bail.
When asked by Almrei's lawyer why he would support a man accused of terrorist acts, Trudeau answered simply: "For my country."
"It's in the interest of Canada to not be detaining people who haven't been charged," said Trudeau, whose father brought into force the Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
This guy admitted to CSIS that he was trained by the Taliban and had associates who were known al-Qaida members.
Try to be objective chaps eh?
