Igantieff appears to be keeping his options open. If Harper/Flaherty stick to the 'trickle down' tax cuts favoured by typical Conservatives like Bush/McCain then Iggy can take an Obama like stance on helping out the majority of Canadians who's income is in the middle and lower ranges.
If on the other hand the budget does bring tax relief to middle and lower income Canadians Iggy will take some credit saying he was able to influence the budget.
As far as the $30 billion deficit being floated around...I'm beginning to wonder if its a typical trial balloon used by all governments (both Lib and Con). New stories get floated projecting a huge deficit figure, then when the actual numbers come out its a lot lower...like maybe only 15 or 20 billion. Its a time tested strategy that might get Canadians thinking, 'Harper's management of the economy is better than we expected'.
