That statement sounds more like wishful thinking to me.

Robo steve has to go, Iggy should have been heading the Libs 2 years ago and we would have saved the country a lot of grief. The story goes that the cons paid lib delegates to vote for Dion at the last convention, that would not surprise me because Dion had no reason to even be nominated, let alone lead.

Igantieff appears to be keeping his options open. If Harper/Flaherty stick to the 'trickle down' tax cuts favoured by typical Conservatives like Bush/McCain then Iggy can take an Obama like stance on helping out the majority of Canadians who's income is in the middle and lower ranges.

If on the other hand the budget does bring tax relief to middle and lower income Canadians Iggy will take some credit saying he was able to influence the budget.

As far as the $30 billion deficit being floated around...I'm beginning to wonder if its a typical trial balloon used by all governments (both Lib and Con). New stories get floated projecting a huge deficit figure, then when the actual numbers come out its a lot lower...like maybe only 15 or 20 billion. Its a time tested strategy that might get Canadians thinking, 'Harper's management of the economy is better than we expected'.

So you criticize Harper because he works so closely with our southern Neighbour (forgive the spelling) and our biggest trading partner but you would go to the polls to elect an American liberal leader?

get your standards strait.

Does Iggy's time teaching at Oxford and Cambridge make him a Brit? They don't hire janitors to teach at places like that and Harvard.

Well, I would challenge anyone living elsewhere than mommies basement to get by on ei these days. I think it maxes out at around 210 per week. And if you dont find work after about 48 you get to live on the street.

Actually, it's about $440 a week, plus you are allowed to work PT and earn about another 15% of that (about $65 a week) BEFORE the government deducts anything from your EI cheque.

And make a certain amount the next year and you will have to repay some of that back to the govt.

Just BTW , Canadian professors are actually doing quite well at Harvard and they are rather numerous and highly respected . Pr. McArthur was Dean of Harvard Business School for 15 years , and he and his wife are from Vancouver , BC.
