Worst-Commercial-Ever. Isn't the tax only ten bucks?

I like it.

Especially since all the ads by Shaw and shit are very well done and well-funded...

All the CBC-CTV-A-Etc ads look like shit, except this one. I like this one a lot.

I wonder if either side in this dispute thinks they are fooling Canadians. We've got the greedy cable companies on one side, and the greedy networks on the other. Whichever side is lying (both!), my wallet is lighter and I am less culturally stimulated than before.

500 channels, and nothing on.

I know who isn't being fooled... the employees that get pink slips and the stations that close down and there has to be some hail Mary local fundraiser to keep the dam thing afloat when the cable companies have been pocketing profits galore and the regulators lean to the side of 'market forces' when the locals, who always had a viable station before the big cable companies bought them all up, get fleeced!

Look, the market model the cable companies run on is great... for big centres. But for the small and medium sized cites they are running at a loss. It's why we needed a CBC to keep our media even running otherwise it would be a vast desert with a few oasis of coverage and that is what it is reverting to. Local TV is good for Canada and we don't need a monopoly to run them. They are worth far more to the country as a whole then a single big TV station out of TO or Calgary. They want to keep a hold on the big markets? Fine, they can have it but I want to see local TV on the channel because 9 times out of ten what they cover I actually give a shit about and not some dam MJ funeral or Paris Hilton bullshit.

Sort of ironic, just a few weeks ago CKX in Brandon went the way of the dodo. 50 years of local broadcasting just gone....not that it was great, but it covered the West man region in ways that CKY and CBC Winnipeg don't.

Not just the obvious ones Scape. I know a guy who works a Global. When they switched to HD, in order to pay for it, they laid off all the camera operators and workers in Calgary and the whole station is basically operated by remote from Edmonton. The writing was on the wall back then for the Red Deer station too, it closed recently.
