It's not that Iggy lived in the US. It's because he called himself an American and called the US his country. Had he just done his job at Harvard and kept his yap shut about being American, there wouldn't have been much ammo for those particular attack ads.
The real irony with the attack ads was the suggestion that Iggy may not have had Canada's best interests at heart, compared with some of Harper's obvious pandering to US corporate interests.
