The government has my grade four teacher wife here in Toronto teaching how to speak in one's own "voice". She has to give them a grade in this ability and has a template of skills level that she worked up to explain what a grade means. "Voice" is something professional writers work at, not nine year olds. Nine year olds don't have an opinion, let alone articulate it from their own point of view. The guys in the government that thought this up are birds - brilliant birds without a clue. Education fads have been like this for a long time.
