I think the homeowner grant is ONLY in BC.

"The HOG entitles the owner to a maximum reduction in residential property taxes of $470. (An additional grant of up to a maximum of $275 is also available if over 65, permanently disabled, or in receipt of certain war veterans allowances)."

HOG. We had something like that in the 70's and it was a grant for 5% of the down payment for a mortgage so you could get the 10% d.payment that CMHC wanted for one.

So if you could muster 5% then you could get a house, but I think it had to be paid back. I bought my first home with it(12x52 mobile) I remember it well because interest rates went above 20 % back then. 8O

But you could only use it on your first mortgage on a house. It got lots of people into their own homes though.

It's a handout.

No incentive there at all.
Must be an old NDP program.

I think grants should accomplish something other then giving you money every year, what's the incentive behind the grant for the homeowner?
What does it accomplish?

Well, unless your directly paying thousands of dollars worth of my tuition, then yes I suppose I fund my entire education without help from taxpayers. If your willing to pay im all for that
Who do you think is paying for it????? Like me any every other Canadian....cmon now tman get your facts straight. My tax dollars are funding your education.you owe me big time.

So your money is directly going into my cheques that pay for hundred dollar books and classes? Amazing, would be great as to how you came up with that since your so knowledgable of post-secondary education and im not. I bow down to you.
No dude,my taxes are and when you get a real job and start paying taxes, then you can also bitch about it. School taxes, should I paste my last 25 years worth? What did I get out of it?
Your funded by the Canadian taxpayer dude and dont forget who's paying for it....ever. the Canadian taxpayer has invested tax(his/hers) dollars in to your education, thank god or whoever you pray to that this happens because in most countries you would really have to work at picking bottles and any other means for income just to get an education. So look a gift horse in the mouth if you will,I invested in your education with thousands of my tax dollars....dont let me down or I'll come looking for you.

All right then, im not going to waste my time trying to convince you otherwise but how about this, how much money are taxpayers paying for me? Because all I know is I have to circle all those zeros myself coming from my own pocket. By the way, why are you projecting to say I don't have a real job? I have a real job and I pay taxes so why the job diatribe?

Tman,

Ziggy is an anti-intellectual. He deplores education and fancies it to be fun when really, it is hard work. He can't see the benefits of higher education in his limited scope. If he did, he would understand that the public education system in this country has provided education to those people who DESIGN the computers on which he types for instance. Unless Ziggy has made his own computer from tree bark and pinecones that runs on squirrel piss, he is in debt to the public education system. If Ziggy has ever attended a hospital and been seen by a doctor, he is in debt to the public education system.

Its benefits have provided him with a safe society, a progressive economy which keeps him employed, a vibrant country that serves his needs and brings resources to him that keep him alive.

You aren't Ziggy's "investment", Ziggy is the cross you have to bear, the weight on your back and the anchor you have to tow for the benefit of a public education.

The worst part is? He'll never understand that perspective and HE will never thank YOU for your future endeavours which directly benefit him.

Such is life.
