The Toronto Star Political Reporting

On the eve of the federal election I saw on CBC Toronto Star political reporter Suzan Delacourt say that Ignatieff’s job was safe, that she had heard no calls for his removal. Ms. Delacourt has twenty years of political reporting experience. Meanwhile the entire rest of the country was just chomping at the bit to get rid of him. The caucus dissatisfaction with him had been sealed hermetically by that time. I had to lie down after thinking about that bit of reporting.

And you're surprised? There are quite a few hacks in the Toronto media. She's one.

Oh, give them some leeway at least. They didn't expect 102 NDP seats or a con majority either. They were expecting the liberals to take some losses but not fold outright. Anyone who predicted otherwise 2 weeks ago that the Bloc would have 4 seats and the NDP would bust 100 would have been laughed at. They got blindisded just like everyone else.

Some slack? I was at the bus stop pre-election and asked the young mom there about her political opinions and she commented about "that guy everyone hates, Ignatieff". I have several letters from Liberal MPs indicating that Ignatieff was a loose canon of a leader. That the hacks are the last to find out is something of a problem, socially.
