There's a lot of "jobs worths" on here. If your job is merely the hours that you put in, I feel sorry for you.
8 hours work + 8 hours play + 8 hours sleep = 1 day.
If you don't have this ratio, I feel sorry for you.
That's fine for an ideal world, but things like family, commuting, errands, home cleaning/maintenance and other tasks take time away from one or another of those three areas.
Still, I get what you're driving at and I do strive for a life along those lines too.
My motto is "work to live, not live to work" - it limits my earning potential somewhat, but I don't regret it for second.
It sounds corny as hell, but family is the most important thing in life IMHO.
It is a good ideal, and it all depends on what you consider 'play'. Walking the dog, helping the kids with homework - whatever it take to make sure your own personal needs are fulfilled, not just getting a pay cheque.

By the time that I've commuted for two hours a day, we've delivered our respective offspring to whatever activities (that we may also be volunteers in) done the day-to-day things that are required of LIFE (such as buying groceries, doing dishes, general maintenance), you are lucky to put together 2 hours of play and one is more than likely to be bagged at the end of it all, anyway. Single people lead very different existences.
I am changing where I live because the commute is so long. Almost 40 minutes up from a half hour at my other job! It all depends on priorities. If you find ways, you can fit more 'me' or 'us' time in.
I have yet to master the Sunday afternoon nap though.
