Excerpt from a post about the CPC convention.
Quote:
The resolution states that any Canadian citizen, "whether by birth or by naturalized grant of Canadian citizenship or by claim of landed immigrant or refugee status" who "takes up arms against the Canadian Forces or the Forces of Canada’s Allies automatically invalidates his or her Canadian citizenship or claim" and "should be tried for high treason under the Canadian Criminal Code" if they return to Canada.

I agree for the most part, ie taking up arms against Canadian Forces. But I don't know about the allies thing. What if somebody takes up arms against what is deemed an ally, only to have that ally deemed an enemy soon after?

And what about natives? We've already had them take up arms against our soldiers - would they loose their citizenship too? And where would we sent native born Canadians who lose their citizenship?

Well, in the good ol' days, people convicted of treason didn't have to worry about their citizenship. Cemeteries don't really care about that stuff.

If you use violence to voice your contradictory opinions, then yes.

Thankyou PA9 for your fix. In this case it's the CPC and I keep thinking of Kent State.

My point Andy is that the government and the military are not always right and what recourse is there for the ones who are wronged or in this case shot dead.

That's got nothing to to with the motion in question. Are you suggesting the recourse is to take up arms against the Canadian Military? That would be called a revolution, and your fate will depend on which side wins. That's not what this motion is adressing - hard to make up rules for a revolution.

This whole thing is a mean spirited plan to deal with what Mr. Harper refused to deal with in the past. It's simply a means to default on what has up to the Kadre event been a responsibility of our government. It's a cop out, simple and plain.

That's exactly the part I like about it - take away citizenship of dickheads that go to other countries to fight our troops, then come "home" and want all the benefits of being a Canadian. Fuggedaboudit.
