This is such a bunch of f&^$#n' BS. I'm so sick of hearing about how bad pot is for you, how it leads to all of societies problems and turns people into crackheads. Give me a break. Compared to what pharmaceutical companies are pushing on the public, pot doesn't even rate in terms of physical harm.
Do a tox screen of people involced in car accidents and you'll find that there are way way more people messed up on some 'pharm cocktail' that their doctor prescribed them than those high on pot.
I think the states it just pissed because they can't grow pot that's worth a shit.

I have yet to see one of the pot heads at a college or university do anything more than drop out.
I believe pot should be legal, yes, but it is just as much as a problem as alcohol. However due to international laws which Canada must follow to be accepted internationally, pot will never 100% be legal in Canada. And I know you're wondering 'What about Amsterdam?' Well it is illegal there; it's just that the law enforcement chooses not to enforce it as vigoriously as they should.
It is and would be abused no matter if it's legal or illegal.
As soon as corporations can control THC and sell it cheaper and more potent than what is grown illegally, then it will begin to find its way into socially acceptable druggies (i.e. the boomers on prozac, lorazapam, and vallum.)

I have a friend that wrote his qualifying exam for a physics scholarship at Waterloo totally wasted, it was hash not pot, but that more a technicality. He pulled off some ridiculously high mark. He's an exception, but I think it's funny. He's a researcher something or other now, a social retard, but there you have it.

It is disgusting. A mere smell of it made me sick and gave me a headache.
If it is to be legal, it should not be allowed in public.

Maybe we should learn to speak american.
Just as guns don't kill people pot seeds don't make druggies.
Tobbacco is sold freely though it is specifically engineered to addict you and kill you slowly......let's extradite the heads of American tobbacco companies to be convicted under Canadian law on conspiracy to commit murder of hundreds of thousands of Canadians and send them to a Canadian jail for the rest of their miserable lives, away from their private jets, luxury yachts, mansions and stick them away with Bubba. Let's see what sort of stink the Americans will make when Canada, under Canadian justice standards, the way Canadians want to do things, imposes such a standard for them to live up to.
FUCK the DEA!!

In the end its assisting in a suicide. The person chooses to smoke, I dont give a damn about peer pressure it ultimately comes down to one person's decision.
Now charge the smokers and the smoking companies for manslaughter for all the people who have died as a result of second hand smoke.

This would be a great idea, however Canada sadly depends on the tax dollars generated by the revenue of tobacco products. The government whines and bitches about the amount of dollars it takes to hospitialize alot of the lung cancer patients, but I seriously doubt the hopitial charges for a percentage of lung cancer victims outweigh the billions of dollars in taxes that tobacco products bring in each year. I mean, lung cancer is basically fatal, and quick at that. I think you're given 3 months or something like that.
I used to smoke off and on from 19 to 24. Thank god I only lit up at the age of 19 and not 13 like alot of my friends. What made me stop? A few things.
1. I generated heart palpitations from the tar in the cigarettes. They freaked me out so bad I had a panic attack, thinking I was having a heart attack. One night my heart just started skipping a beat every minute for an entire 24 hour period. 24x60 = 1440 skipped beats (palpitations) in one day. I found out later that they were beign (not directly fatal) but it was enough of a warning sign to stop. So I stopped for 2 weeks thinking it was a once in a lifetime thing, and lit up again. Immediately after I lit up (about 30 minutes) I got the damn palpitations again. I took this as a severe warning sign.
2. The birth of my son. The last thing I wanted my son to do was watch his father a) smoke cigarettes all his life b) die of lung cancer or a heart attack at age ~40

Not if you're Constantine! Sorry....
I liked smoking, I miss it, but it was more the ritual of it that I liked. Smoking is not the smartest thing one could granted. Smoking pot? Well there is one biiiiig difference with smoking pot vs cigarettes. Pot gets you high, it has a recreational purpose, cigarettes just kill you plain and simple.

Smoking is bad for, and everyone knows that. Some people still choose to do it however, and that is what makes our country great. Should be the same for Marijuana.

I was thinking the exact same thing earlier today (before viewing this thread). Cigarettes are a poor way to deal with problems.
I also think another factor is the physical dependence of nicotine. However, drugs can be both used and abused.
