weaselways weaselways:
It may an exaggeration but not by much. You have a Clown for mayor who doesn't know his a** from a hole in the ground eg claiming 80% of the City budget is taken up by wages & benefits. Makes a fool of himself eg drunken behaviour at a Maple Leafs game.
Threatens newspaper reporters (see youtube). Makes wild promises of "no service cuts", "no property tax increase" (lately he's been waxing on radio of 3% a increase for 2012) ,a White Elephant of a subway to be built with private funds for Sheppard, the nonsenscial 8.2B subterrarean LRT project for Eglinton at the cost of loosing Jane, Don Mills & Finch LRT's all because of his misguded dislike of "street cars". I could go on with this ode to stupidity however that enough to give an idea.

There are far to many idiots like you in Toronto and exactly why the City is in a massive financial crisis.

Tools like you think streetcars on already congested roads is a good thing, as if people are all going to jump out of their cars and jump into 1950's style of transportation.

World class cities have subways systems. New York. London.

We would have been much better off with the a gay former cocaine user that couldn't manage a budget if his life was on the line.

Sure, it's QUITE AS WORSE than Mogadishu....

Did you write that 'op-ed' ?

No, however I could go on, if the peanut gallery (remember Razzle Dazzle) was so moved.

You mistake me, Toronto would have been better off had John Tory decided to run. What the people of Toronto were left with was alsorans vying for the mayorality and they picked the least competent as they have consistently in the past witness John Sewell, Barbara Hall, Mel Lastman. The thing was going back in time the mayor was elected to 2 year terms so damage would be mitigated, then it went 3 year terms still not really a problem however now there is and I'll repeat a CLOWN in the seat for 4 years and that is a problem even with his older brother & an exEtobicoke mayor controlling him. The guy is a loose cannon.
As for your comment regarding LRT's Jane, Don Mills & Finch are for the most part six lane roads capable of handling both vehicle traffic & dedicated track and north south access is of a high requirement.
Toronto is not a world class city and never has been. Toronto maybe under that delusion however when making comparisons it should be with the Manchester's or Chicago's of the world not NYC or London.

Subways don't make cities world class.

I guess Tokyo, Dublin, Budapest, Berlin, etc ad nauseum are not world class cities due to using low floor rail (Trams).

Low floor rail makes perfect sense when digging a tunnel for one subway line costs more than a couple runs of LFR.

I hope the LFR they are building in Edmonton looks as good as the architectural sketches. :D

Really, it's the lefty rhetoric which bugs the other 75% of Toronto and the GTA. Ford is making tough decisions that should have been made years ago.

Toronto has been mismanaged for decades. Canada's largest city on the shores of Lake Ontario should be a showcase for the province if not the country. Instead we have had mayors and council more interested in promoting special interest groups over actually making decisions for the good of everyone.

The infantile left-driven tirades against an elected mayor highlight the pettiness of those who have grown accustomed to ruling over us poor plebs and pushing minority agendas, instead of putting taxpayers money into real civic improvements.

The whole Pride ‘debate’ says it all and now we have people comparing Toronto to some Somali shit-pit? What is wrong with some people?

Count the votes Ford got and count the Liberal seats in the GTA. People are tired of the special interest groups.

Reap what you sow. The Allen and Hwy. 400 extension expressways' cancellations are much to blame for the current mess ... a very obvious result predicted by the intelligent when the decisions were made ... and Miller's tear down efforts of the east end of the Gardiner is another dim idea.

Can't diagree with you there. I'll just add the Richview/Crosstown Exp and the Scarboro Exp to your list.
All the above were planned for a seamless expressway network in Toronto back in the 60's as well as a rapid transit (subway) network if undertaken at the time would make this discussion moot.

If you want to experience Mogadishu much closer to home then just visit Rick Scott's Florida (Inc.). This past week their strict dogmatic TeaPartier adherence to Randian economic insanity led them to turn down a multi-million dollar grant from the federal government to help victims of child abuse. One by one every single bit of government assistance that was supposed to help the unwealthy is being stripped away, and it's going to rip America apart from the inside out if it keeps happening. Rob Ford looks like a hardcore Marxist Dipper in comparison to what's going on in GOP jurisdictions south of the eborder.

I find the article is right to criticize Ford for many reasons listed in the article but of course, we all have to jump on the Somalia bit. Yes, it's an utterly ridiculous notion, but the "article" makes some rather accurate points about Ford.

Yes, because creating a transit and bike friendly city is not helping make Toronto a showcase city.

Ford is like a breath of fresh air, compared to Miller and his constant fornication with special interast groups.

But they WILL eventually. Cities will eventually do away with cars. Those cities that make that shift soonest will be best positioned for the new economy.

World class 20th century cities, yes. World class 21st century cities won't resemble anything we currently know.

I'd be very surprised if Smitherman's done any more coke than Ford in his day, though I feel certain he's done more cock.

I think some of these nancy-boy reporters/bloggers should pay a visit to a Third-World country like ....Wales and see what a shit-hole really looks like instead of watching it on youtube.

This is certainly a very interesting prediction. How so?
