Well ENJOY the FLIGHT home USA.... along with hmmm other world soccer superpowers...Togo, Poland, Costa Rica ( isn't that a US state yet)
Cote d Ivorie, Paraguay, Sebia... and several others taking the bus ride to the airport... Ve hope you had a nice time in Germany... now please to be going f**king home.
You're embarrassing Canada and our education system again. Comments like that are what Canadians expect from Americans.
You're thinking Puerto Rico, not Costa Rica. Or are you referring to any country other than the US? As in "isn't Canada a US state yet?"
This is the 18th World Cup. 12 of the 32 teams have appeared in three or less World Cups. "Powerhouses" Togo and Cote d'Ivoire are appearing in their first, as are Angola, Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, and the Ukraine. Australia and Ecuador are appearing in their second, while Costa Rica, Iran, Japan and Paraguay are in the third World Cup.
Just making it to the World Cup final (that's the tournament, not the final game of the final's on July 9th) doesn't mean you are a powerhouse. Just ask Costa Rica, Mexico and the US who qualify out of the very weak Concacaf region. The US is ranked #4 in the world, but I don't think they take the opposition into account when they make the rankings. And ask the Mexicans the same thing - they have long been considered the North American powerhouse, but they have never made it past the final 8 of the World Cup final.
As for the US and Italy: Italy looked good in their 2-0 defeat of Ghana, Ghana is looking good right now pounding the Czech's 2-0 late, and the US looked horrifying losing to the Czech's 3-0. If the teams from the first games show up, it might be another 6-0 game like Argentina and Serbia yesterday.
There's only one good thing to say about the US, and it's also the one thing I hate about soccer. At least the US don't go down like someone shot them whenever an oppenent comes within three feet. Soccer has taken a harder approach than hockey - you get a red card if you dive. But it's an art deeply ingrained in these players. Do you think they start training kids at a very early age to dive? I hate it.
