Sounds nice. I'm getting old - never heard of 500 gig hard drives!

I've seen 300 but not 500.

Maybe the 500 gig HDDs are being built by the Vaporware Corporation, the fine purveyors of all sorts of rumoured technology.

that computer would cost a shit load, not worth the price for the performance gain over a cpu step down and video card step down.

Never worth getting the newest CPU or Video Card.

Well.. It seems that you got the money for it. Being such an expensive system why not spend a bit more and make it secure with some water cooling.

I'm not sure but i think you would be better off with 2 250gb HD instead..

there has been terabyte HD's available for years now, they're just rediculously expensive and very large (the size of a record player)... but soon my fairy friends we'll have these in our homes... bwhahahahah

very true, it does seem eccessive, but I found that every time i turned around, i noticed that "just for a few more bucks I could get this" and that seemed to happen with every compnant. the rig should cost me about 2300 bones and upgradable for the next year ie second hdd with raid 0 second video card, more ram ect.

Good call about the "Sounds just a tad bit extreme to use just for surfing porn!?" but what the hell eh! better too extreme than not!

mmmmmmmm porn!

try this.
so much better than alienware...they just take your money like dell.

AMD 3800+ X2
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_deta ... 50&mcid=30

DFI Ultra-D Mobo
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_deta ... 65&mcid=31

eVGA 7800GT
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_deta ... 33&mcid=24

Seagate Baracuda hd
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_deta ... 44&mcid=28

OCZ RAM
http://www.anitec.ca/?mode=product_detail&pid=4513

total 1820 canadian.

you really don't need 2 gig of ram right now though.
1gig will get you buy perfectly fine..unless your a "whore" and want to max out BF2 and FEAR
and...3800 x2's a perfectly fine. just overclock it for the extra speed...not like you need it though....

edit:
i would though, actualy go with a 36 gig Raptor 10K Sata drive and get a 250-300 gig 7200rpm s-ata drive...but, tha's just me.

Giant hard drives are a waste of money. What does the average user need with 300 GB? This is server level stuff IMHO. I think a good CPU and the best monitor you can afford is important.
