With Battlefield 3 and MW3 coming out in the next little while, I want to make sure I'm not getting lag killed.

I'm on the 360 with the old G wireless adapter and I have a Linksys G router with speedboost, though it's about 4 years old now.

So my question is: Which would would impact my latency the most? Upgrading the adapter or the router, or both?

Not sure of the throughput speed of those devices. However network speed is often governed by the slowest device in the chain.
Hope that helps a little.

Best performance is always through a wired connection, I find wireless can drop out on you when you least expect it, all depends on the quality of your equipment and how much interference there is from other devices around your network.

If you're going to upgrade, may as well go all the way and go with a wireless N adapter and router. If you only upgrade one or the other you'll see little or no improvement.

All that being said, how much lag you experience is more dependent on your ISP than your network gear (if its all working properly), that's where the bottleneck is.

I was curious so I'm downloading the Beta for Battlefield 3 (don't know if you can beta test on a 360 or PS3).

Hopefully it's more or less stable.

No shit get rid of the wireless shit. It only adds lag.
Get rid of the router altogether if you have a DSL or cable modem.

That won't work with multiple wired machines will it? I have this computer, my wife's computer, our son's computer and his PS3. Is there some way to keep them all wired without using a router?

No but if they're on it will affect your ping times.
You could isolate yourself with a little 5 port gigabit switch that splits you from the router feed. Just unplug them if they're not around. You might need to 'register' your mac address on some systems.
We do that so some priority link doesn't get bogged down by heavy loads on a router.
