8 April 2014 is the last day that Microsoft will be providing patch support for the venerable 32-bit OS we all know and love:

Windows XP

I'll miss this tidy little OS but will note that I'm quite fond of 64-bit Windows 7 these days.

FYI: If you're still running XP after today then my advice is to shut it down or physically disconnect it from the net by removing your network cable or, if applicable, by disabling your wireless features.

True, some folks are planning on doing open source support of XP but this will require daily checks for patches and then downloading and installing them...daily.

Like I said, shut it off.

I've got a desktop still running XP, but it hasn't been connected to the net for a couple years and it pretty much is only used as a CD burner.

It took me a while, but Windows 7 really grew on me...but I won't upgrade to 8 because it's a stinker.

Still, thanks for the heads up!

You're most welcome!

Just don't want to see my CKA friends getting burned by some sleazy Russian hackers! [B-o]

I was running XP on my old laptop up until last fall, when the laptop died. My new laptop is running Windows 8, and I really like it. 7 and Vista were complete crap. Glad I jumped from XP to 8.

Keep it simple and within her limits in order to maintain maximum household harmony!

Better yet just go buy her another kitten instead.

I still miss XP. It was a stable and efficient OS unlike the system hogs that are Windows 7&8, though I've gotten to like Windows 7 as well.

Apparently ATM's all run on XP and will now be much easier to hack.

Replaced a few XP PC's this week with Win7 machines. Can't believe they were still running at all.

My desktop had significant difficulties with Windows 7, so I downgraded to XP. It has been a loyal operating system. This box is pretty old now, every single part of it laughably ancient.

My desktop will now be Linux-only from now on though, I guess. That's fine.

I imagine shops are going to have a field day with the coming malwaregeddon that will surely take place.

Got a Netbook years ago with Windows7 LAME edition. Took so goddam long to switch from one network to another, I downgraded it to XP so I could use NetSetMan
Forgot was an obosolete piece of shit XP was.
Put it back to 7 HP64 and added Linux to do networking tests.
FFS the long in the tooth XP and the Vista fiasco sold 10X as many Macs as Steve Jobs did.
Win7 and 8 are both better, long as you're not using some ancient single-core machine. Win7 HP64 works better on a bloody Atom with 4 GBs

Bought one last week, as my ancient XP crusader laptop was given it's final burial.

Turn the laptop on, go have a smoke, maybe it had fired up by the time I got back.

New one is fast, really fast.
