Today in Canada we have many different aspects of Conservatism:

1) Religious, Social Issues, - Conservatives. Those who`s major issues are abortion, same-sex marriage, and other religion-related social issues.

2) Government Reform. Those who want a democratic government (senate) and it to have as little influence in our lives as possible, and more power and jurisdiction to the provinces. More of a U.S. system.

3) Low Taxes, Anti-Social Programs, Pro Business, Capitalism. Those Conservatives that believe in low taxes, few social programs as possible, a pro-business capitalist culture.

4) War, Crime & Punishment. Those Conservatives that believe in war and finishing the job. Also those Tories who believe in fair justice and are usually against rehabilitation and favour capital punishment.

Their may be other sectors, but you get the drift. Most supporters fall into 1 or more of these groups.

Unlike the misconceptions we are not all Bible-thumper, Pro Life, Anti-Gay people. Only one section of the party is.

I personally fall into most aspects of Conservatism.

But this paints a difficult job for the Conservative Party of Canada. They have to find a way to strike a balance with all these groups and not lean too close to one part.

On top of that you have the ongoing struggle of uniting Alliance (social conservatism, Gov. Reform), and Progressive Conservatives (low taxes, pro-economy, anti social programs).
