Thanos Thanos: The same banks that wanted into Canada but were refused entry later went on to trigger the US housing meltdown, which nearly set off another great depression. And these are the guys you want to let loose in our country? You see the housing bubble in Vancouver and Toronto? How about the 167% consumer debt to income which leads the world, who do we blame this on?

Lemmy Lemmy: shockedcanadian shockedcanadian: Brain surgury requires an advanced, very specific skill set and knowledge base. One mistake and patients die or are permanently harmed without any hope of recovery. Regulating the money supply and managing credit markets also require an advanced, very specific skillset. Likewise, one mistake and it's 2007 again. You clearly haven't that skillset, so as Doc said, time to stop typing before you make yourself look any more ignorant than you already have. Such an advanced skills that only Canadians possess? Or maybe we shouldn't accept world class surgeons from around the world because they weren't educated in Canada. Protectionism will destroy us, especially when coupled with an over reaching, interventionalist security apparatus.

That's from a limited supply of housing being used in an international Ponzi scheme. When it collapses it'll only affect Canada, and the rip-off artists in China that are using Canadian realty as a place to dump their stolen money. The mortgage meltdown in the US was caused by shysters and crooks using an unregulated marketplace to sell crooked mortgages to unsuspecting victims. At it's heart was thirty years worth of politicians doing the bidding of bankers to get rid of as much consumer and homeowner protection that they could.

What the hell are you talking about? nutsy nutsy: Protectionism will destroy us, especially when coupled with an over reaching, interventionalist security apparatus. You're off your head and I haven't the skillset to communicate, let alone discuss economics, with crazy people.

Why do you think our interest rates are at historic lows and not moving? Canadians are encouraged to borrow, even still our economy is stagnant. You know who to blame. Maybe the police and their C.I's will create the next economic boom...

At the branch level it's as easy as running a restaurant. As it were, all the data points to a major issue in our economy that won't improve soon. Especially when our most important allies doesn't trust us... Maybe Canadian authorities need to change protectionist policies and demand accountability of those in positions of trust.

Because what the Arabs did with the oil price hammered Alberta and essentially put a halt to the economic engine that was driving growth in Canada, from housing to manufacturing? What did you people think was going to happen, that it was all going to be restricted to devastation inside Alberta only and that the rest of you were going to la-dee-fucking-da tiptoe your way through the tulips with no consequences affecting you too?

DrCaleb DrCaleb: Type slowly, and use lots of drawings in crayon. Nah, I tried, but he's irretrievably stupid. Time to chuck him into the "ignore" bin with Fiddlydiddly, BRAH and moron14.

Just a side note/question. The place we were talking about a month ago with all the homes burned down. I don't recall the towns name. Will all the above actually make it even harder on them and any reconstruction more expensive?

Will all the above actually make it even harder on them and any reconstruction more expensive? Fort McMurray. Between the local construction hassles, the banks/insurance companies screwing people every way they can, things like sudden massive tariffs on drywall, and portions of the neighbourhoods suddenly being turned into brownfields because of all the soil contamination from burnt plastics and metals, the rebuilding has turned into a disaster. One of those stories that disappeared off the radar as soon as the flames were out.

One of those stories that disappeared off the radar as soon as the flames were out. In the U.S these poor citizens would have their issues broadcast on CNN, CNBC and Fox. I suppose that's the beauty of open media versus state run CBC.

In the US the people would have had their backyards laced with PCB's like at Love Canal and have it ignored for thirty years until the childhood cancer rate became too much for even the Reagan administration to avoid.
