The Russians make REALLY GOOD fighter aircraft. This is no desert tribe, armed with second string weapons. The Russians can do advanced aerospace and more often than not, the West has been catching up to them and not the other way around.

The F-16 just had its fortieth birthday this January, It is hardly "cutting edge". Beware of hubris, say the gods.

When our country had a population of 11 million, we produced a military of 1.1 million over about four years, using all volunteers. It is a matter of need and time. We have the wealth to generate a real military, just not to sustain it forever. Given a sufficiently deep and grave crisis, we will do so, again.

Well, we seem to be losing a ship every couple of weeks, so staffing problems should
be resolved soon.
