Another fact... we're talking about a primitive culture here. Primitive cultures, be they muslim, christian, animist, or whatever, are violent. Human life is cheap to them. Has been for most of human history. You can blame it on the religion if you want, but it's really just an excuse. Christianity didn't make crusaders violent assholes, the brutal siciety they lived in did. Islam doesn't make these people assholes, their violent primitive society does. Give them atleast a few decades to try and catch up to the place our society took a few centuries to reach.

Andy and I had just agreed in another thread that we live in a violent world. Regardless of where you are.

Human life is cheap to human life. We kill each other for fun, or ego, or whatever reason you want to give it, but not for food. That makes human life cheap.

I beg to differ. While not all Muslims are a-holes (yes, DDude included) I'm pretty comfortable saying that all Afghans are.

Somalis are at least three rungs up the social ladder from the Afghans. Somalis might not be fun people but at least you can generally trust them when they give you their word on something. Afghans will say you are their best friend just as they shoot you.

Kindly note that in the past I've said much the same and made it abundantly clear that I do not blame the antics of the Afghans on Islam. Afghanistan was screwed up long before the advent of Islam and Mohammed joins the ranks of all of the other conquerors who was unable to fix these people.

Yeah, I wasn't totally sympathetic with the two relief workers who got rescued recently. My gut feeling is that they did something to cheese off the locals who then put them outside of the protection of their hospitality.
