"Iran said the engine had caught fire and video appeared to show the plane already on fire as it fell from the sky
The plane was less than four years old and had been checked just two days earlier, the Ukrainian airline said
It crashed hours after Iran attacked US bases in Iraq in retaliation for the killing of Qassem Soleimani
Experts struggled to explain it with one group saying starting assumption should be an MH17-style event"

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... media.html

Iran is refusing to turn over the plane's black box.

Chatter is that the Iranians shot it down. Whether or not that was accidental is not known.

No but nice spin.

The Persians are refusing to turn it over to the Boeing company --- who are not entitled to the black box.

Yes they are.

Quote:

The normal procedure in the event of an airliner crash is for the manufacturer, engine supplier and safety experts from their country to assist with local aviation regulators in the ensuing investigation.

However, work to discover the causes of the loss of the Ukraine International Airlines Boeing 737-800 which crashed soon after take-off from Tehran is likely to be blocked by hostilities between Iran and the US.

In civilized countries, the NTSB and the FAA would be called in as well to help.

But since Iran is a third world shithole, that won't happen until enough of the
plane has been 'lost' or 'damaged' or whatever, to foul things up.

The more the Iranians screw around with this, the more guilty they are.

On top of the current tensions, US sanctions already banned American companies from doing business in Iran, making it hard to see how Chicago-based Boeing could send staff there, or engine supplier CFM, a joint-venture between American conglomerate GE and France’s Safran.

Boeing insiders say this is a factor behind the American aerospace giant’s cautious response to the incident.

Just under two hours after crash, Boeing tweeted that it was “aware of media reports out of Iran and we are gathering more information”.

The crash occurred on Persian soil. The Persians are entitled to lead the investigation.

You do know that the Persian Empire has been gone since 1925, right? This 'Persian' soil and people you refer to are Iranians inside Iran.

Perhaps you should read some books and get your knowledge up to speed before posting....

And, I'm sure that they'll be happy to hand it over to the people who built and understand it as soon as it's been altered to remove any traces of Achmed's premature missile discharge.

I am deeply sorry for the Canadians who lost their lives in this horrid act of war.

https://www.redstate.com/streiff/2020/01/08/761990/

It Looks Increasingly Likely That Iran Accidentally Shot Down That Ukrainian Airliner

Pictures of shrapnel damage on the site indicate a surface-to-air missile was used to bring down the airliner.

From an international airline organization called 'OPSGROUP'...

Quote:
Purely from the perspective of making a risk assessment for operations to Tehran, and Iran in general, however, we would recommend the starting assumption to be that this was a shootdown event, similar to MH17 – until there is clear evidence to the contrary.

Images seen by OPSGROUP, shown below, show obvious projectile holes in the fuselage and a wing section. Whether that projectile was an engine part, or a missile fragment is still conjecture, but in making a decision as to whether to operate to Iran, erring on the side of caution would dictate that you do not, until there is clear information as to the cause.

Iran should NOT get any kind of free pass on this! Innocent Canadians died! We have warplanes in the area, so let's use them!

The first thing that needs to happen is to stop allowing Canadians to travel to Iran.

The most plausible explanation is some sort of shootdown by the Iranians. Obviously, they can’t involve the US gov or Boeing. Let’s hope they’ll let someone else, perhaps the French, examine the flight recorders.

I doubt it will happen again. An advisory of the dangers of going there should be enough.
