This would be a far better story if the writer talked about how the money was being spent and what progress is being made, rather than whining about lack of media coverage.

"Last July, Premier Ed Stelmach announced $2 billion for carbon capture and storage."

"The U.S. president is touting $3.4 billion for carbon capture and storage in his new stimulus bill."

progress will take more than 6 months.

Quote:
“Last Saturday, our beloved CBC broadcast a national TV piece on the oilsands. Along with the familiar glee at Alberta's economic misfortune, there were the routine interviews with hard-line opponents of the oilsands.”

This appears to be a common reaction by the apparent hard core Albertans. "If you point out our problems", it’s a personal attack. I figured it was simply the immature reaction by the small group of vocal malcontents on this forum, but it appears to be systemic. I see the rebranding of the TARsands to OILsands is underway too.

Again addressing the article, the rather sensitive defensive position of “we put more money per capita before they did” only begs the same question I’ve asked before. What is all that money doing? I’d bet “them uppity ‘Mericans” will probably have something to show for their money first only because they are now more motivated.

Quote:
“This week, carbon capture experts are meeting downtown. Projects will be announced soon.”

I’m anxious to hear the outcome of this meeting. Considering the growing negative (and well deserved) press the tarsands have attracted, as a Canadian, I couldn’t be more proud if we actually come up with a viable solution first.
