There is an old maritime practice called keel hauling that would ne appropriate here.

The old practice of being drawn and quartered would work just as well I think.

Give him a severe sentence that denounces this heinous crime. Nine months sounds about right.

Don't forget that he also deserves a very stern lecture from the judge. That'll teach him!
