COnfirmation, eh? I figure it was confirmed for me five minutes after it happened when friends on Haida Gwaii and Smithers both posted about the shaker on Facebook. Good think we didn't learn anything from Japan here.

I watched the bit on the National where Wendy Mesley questioned the talking head and the woman couldn't or wouldn't answer the damn question, why it took so damn long to issue a warning

It's part of that syndrome where no one wants to be responsible for telling people to get the heck out of the way of potential danger and that's because, if they're wrong, they're afraid they'll be ridiculed. Sometimes it's better to err on the side of caution and just tell people to get to high ground not because you know there's a danger, but because there might be.

Guessed they missed the court happenings in Italy. :P

Still, 39 minutes for a tsunami is a long time. Too long.
And on twitter ?
Ridiculous.

Yep. There will be political fallout for the Liberals as well. And of course they're doing so well in the polls.

What happened in Italy was that the scientists said that it was "outside the realm of possibility" for a major quake to follow the temblors preceeding it. Thus they predicted the absence of a quake and that's why they got convicted for responsibility in the deaths of too many people.

The media spins this to make it look like they got prosecuted for failing to predict an earthquake when, in fact, they predicted the absence of a quake - which is equally spurious.
