Good ol' socialism... always there it seems even after it has proved to be catastrophic.

A little on the hardcore side, but a good read.

Well, the point of the entire article was that it's not the same old as this has yet to be!? Talk about missing the point completely. :x

The article is misleading just with the title: bail-outs are NOT capitalism. It is the contrary.

I'm sorry, but this individual does not understand what capitalism is, or what it implies. "Bureaucratized manifestations" of capitalism? It doesn't make any sense.

"Capitalism is a pathology."
"Capitalism is a sort of implanted virus, that is enforced against Americans, and other people, through a fear, that the only alternative is "socialism" or even worse "communism"."
"owners of capital view democracy as the enemy, that threatens their desire to pursue insatiable greed and power."
"vitally needed transformation of American from a decaying capitalist society, into a quality-of-living affirming, mutually reinforcing, revitalized, and socially responsible political and economic democracy."
etc.

That's what Marx was saying. And to me, Marx is good ol' failing socialism.

Now, we seem to have good ol' failing capitalism and the philosophy of government hands-off of the greedy bankers which got us into this mess in the first place.

Good ol' failing capitalism? Where, pray tell, has capitalism failed us here? It does not promise to save us from all market crashes, but it certainly provides the quickest way to get out of them and the best way to minimize the consequences of such a failure. It's not like capitalism is even responsible for the most recent catastrophes.

People just don't understand that.

It's government intervention that created the crisis, not capitalism.

I don't point to government as the sole instigator of the crisis, just as a strong contributor. Markets rise and fall naturally as the world changes and supply and demand shift due to any number of factors. The housing market or the loan industry going through difficult times is not a problem so much as just the way the world works. What is a problem is the government stepping in to inflate the housing market and then acting all surprised when the eventual downturn is far worse than it would otherwise have been.

I didn't find the tube of glue that I'm supposed to smell when I read that so it just sounded stupid. I guess I'll have to ask Jack to explain it to me next time he comes over for a kitchen table chat.

Meanwhile, how's Cuba and Zimbabwe working out for you commies?

Riden, how many times does it have to be smacked into your head that Zimbabwe isn't Communist? I think you've been sniffing glue for a while already...

Would you accept it if I took Zimbabwe out and put in North Korea instead? How about Burma?
