I laugh at this, because tonight Service Alberta is doing some SAN changes. Whenever they do these, on Friday no one can work. So that's tens of thousands of people sitting on their hands and chatting at the coffee pot. Way to save money!

Shared Service Canada is no better. Thanks Harper!

I would be interested to know more. $4,300 for a "senior manager" sounds low. A standard bonus target in the private sector for someone in that category would be more like 15% or 20% of base salary. A portion of that bonus is usually tied to individual performance and some to department outcomes or team performance so it could be that the $4,300 bonus is already significantly reduced from what they could have earned if things had gone smoothly.

The executives should forego their bonus, for optics if nothing else, given the various boondoggles. That's part of being a leader.

The bonuses at Canada Post are insane. The CEO has essentially NO JOB and NO RESPONSIBILITIES yet gets about $400-$500 thousand per year and a 33% bonus.

The US Postal system has about 500 000 employees and has one president & one vice president. Canada Post has about a tenth of the number of employees yet has 22 presidents and vice presidents.

The thing that taxpayers should be pissed about:

Canada Post operates without taxpayers' money BUT the profit that they make goes into taxpayers' funds to be used for government programs/expenses. The postal review that has been going on did not inform the public about any of the corporate waste before seeking their input.

$11 million in salary for the top 23 white collar 'jobs'.
$420 million in supervisors who number about one for every ten workers.
Another 2500 executives who probably account for another $200 million in salary.

At least HALF of all of that money is completely wasted because at least half of those people add nothing to the bottom line.

So...$310 million per year could be added to the bottom line if they cleaned up management. By 'cleaned up' I mean cut the top 23 due to incompetence and redundancy, get rid of half of the other execs because they are redundant, and lose half of the supervisors because they are redundant.

$1:
The bonuses at Canada Post are insane. The CEO has essentially NO JOB and NO RESPONSIBILITIES yet gets about $400-$500 thousand per year and a 33% bonus.

Canada Post has 64,000 employees, 13,000 vehicles, 6,200 office locations, delivers 9 billion items to 16 million addresses over service area larger than any other nation, including Russia. Its revenue from operations is $8 billion annually. So I doubt the CEO has "no job and no responsibilities".

$1:
The US Postal system has about 500 000 employees and has one president & one vice president.

Wow...you really went the extra mile.
#1 - I was going off of 2015 numbers for the 22 presidents and vice presidents. Did they actually can 4 of them? 18 to go.
#2 - I was obviously misinformed on the USPS. No excuse.

The numbers you have regarding the corporation are not correct though so...could your detective work on the Presidents and Vice-Presidents be incorrect as well? Let's say it's 100%. Good work.

http://www.tpsgc-pwgsc.gc.ca/examendepo ... t-eng.html

Page 27 of the PDF shows a total of 50 000 (from the 2015 annual report) and they have not been hiring more people than have been retiring. Not all of those 50 000 are working mail. They have all of the supervisors in that number too and management.

It also shows "Executive, management and non-unionized 2,500" (see how they put the 'non-unionized' group in with the management? To muddy the waters).

and if the Beave can look up all of that (who knows what motivated him, I never kicked his dog - I swear!) then you should easily be able to look up my post where I said that. I'll wait...

Here's the Canada Post 2015 annual report (PDF) with the figures from my post. From what I can tell, your link only said "over 50,000" not 50,000.

https://www.canadapost.ca/assets/pdf/ab ... iew_en.pdf

Anyway my only point is that it's doubtful the president has"no job" and "does nothing" given the size of the organization and its operations.

If he took a year off, the mail system would still work the same. That means he is redundant.

Page 27 of the PDF (the page in question actually is numbered in the report as page 21) shows the breakdown and total of 50,000. If they are rounding off enough in their numbers to exclude 14,000...well, it is Canada Post and the management is really that incompetent so, perhaps they report as loosely as they manage.

The difference is you're only counting Canada Post instead of the Canada Post Group of companies, which includes purolator and some others

As to your other comments you just should've said you have no idea what a CEO actually is or does therefore you just assume he does nothing.

No. He does nothing. There is a video of him being questioned by a member of parliament a few years ago and the way that he answers questions is the same as the way that he works...he doesn't. He was parked there by Harper and the previous CEO had done a lot so he just coasted.

Then he actually did start doing things without consulting anyone who knew anything and that's why the results have been so crappy with freezing locks on USA-sourced mailboxes which shouldn't have been installed in the first place and those sorts of things.

The results of him doing something have been worse than when he did nothing...like the engineer who makes critical changes to an actual physical work responsibility because it works on paper but has no idea about the practical nature of the physical function.

Money for nothing.

Furthermore, his contract was extended by Harper prior to the election which ousted Harper but the contract didn't actually start until Harper was out of office for weeks.

Ok, so you're just saying the current CEO isn't fulfilling the responsibilities of his role, not that a CEO has no responsibilities?
