The issue with the church is ..yes he committed a heinous crime and he should be charged, convicted and do what he is given. The church stand is anti-abortion which it sees as murder. The two are separate. I as a Catholic hold this view, otherwise its my choice not to belong to the church. I do however believe in cases such as this it would be a very difficult decision. I dont think the mother or the child deserve excommunication..
