Canadians have a large impact on the web. Why the fuck does the CRTC think we need a fee to help
Canadian content? The CRTC needs to be shut down.

Come on. The net is almost the only place left free here. We pay already A LOT too much for the internet. PLUS, I pay for a 8mbits connection but I can only download at 240kbps. What's the FU/"$% point of having 8mbits except the higher fees ?

Yes, screw the CRTC and let people/enterprises LIVE.

Between CKA,TSN, CBC and the G&M...I get enough canadian content and I do it by my own free will. It is amazing what people will do freely but would stop if someone tried to force them!!!!

Shouldn't the headline read: "Dinosaur tries to fend off extinction by trying to become relevant."

I wonder, if the CRTC approves this, if the content companies would provide a website for Canadians to download Canadian music and TV show. We would be funding it, after all. (as if we aren't funding it already through our cable bills)

Of if they'll even try to pretend they haven't been bought by the media companies.

There is a reason the grey market continues to thrive here in Canada.

People don't want to be told what they can and cannot watch or listen to.

Under the guise of "protecting" Canada and Canadians, what the CRTC is really doing limiting our rights to purchase what many of us want.

When I see what is available on Bell ExpressVu or Star Choice, I see 10 different CBC's, 10 different CTV's, several RO's and VR's and other Canadian networks and then a few Canadian versions of U.S. channels.

Honestly, compared to U.S. satellite tv, it's truly pathetic.

Now, with the imposed CANCON involved with satellite radio, the CRTC has once again limited the programming options to Canadian consumers.

2 words: GREY MARKET

The Cancon rules which have been applied to Sat radio are pathetic. I don't personally here any more Canadian content on the regular channels than I would if I were listening to a FM channel in California. As for the "Canadian" channels they're nothing more than an embarrassment. Take Canada 360 for example. A 15 minute news loop that repeats for 24 hours before they update it. That’s about as pathetic as it can get. The only reason that channel even exists is because it receives government funding. If that is the type of result we can expect from the CRTC's involvement in tv/radio broadcasting we'd be better off with out it.
