Right on.
The only thing that protects us as far as Arctic possessions go is international law. If somebody decides to ignore international law and pushes hard, we ain't got nuthin' to push back with. Well not nuthin' but insufficient.
We need to develop a lot more Arctic capability - armed icebreakers, more northern air staging bases, etc.
Nobody argues our land masses and northern islands, but the sea bed and sea lanes have a good potential to eventually become flash points. Even the USA does not recognize our sovereignty over the Northwest Passage.
