How the hell did this slip by the general public with no outrage? I suppose the Liberal gov't thinks that giving over our security to a communist dictatorship who has been caught spying numerous times and is hell bent on fucking our country over at every opportunity is a good way to protect Canadian interests. ROTFL

I'm sincerely beginning to wonder given these bizzare decisions who the Liberal gov't works for, us or the Communist Chinese regime?

Purchasing metal detectors and x-ray machines isn’t “giving over our security “ to the seller. There’s little risk. It’s not like it’s computer servers or communications equipment.

It's just confirmation that when COVID is over that nothing in the larger meta will change. That which can be built here, and should be built here, to be prepared for future emergencies will still be manufactured over there. And that won't just be the doing of our obtuse governments. The corporations and shareholders will not want the globalization halted in any way whatsoever, simply because doing it this way provides them with too much of their revenue.

There is no "new" normal. It's still the ugly old normal, and always will be. Anyone who thinks COVID has been some sort of massive wake-up call really needs to give their head a shake.

Okay forget the security aspect since you don't think it important enough to worry about but maybe you can answer this question. Why the fuck is our gov't giving a contract to a Red Chinese gov't company when it's going to cost more than if they went with the Canadian one? And, why are they giving a contract to a company owned by a government that's holding Canadian citizens hostage, attempting to pressure Canada into doing their bidding and who have lied about every aspect of a virus they unleashed upon the world?

If those facts aren't enough to bother you then you and Mr. Trudeau obviously know something that nobody else does.

Chosen over a cheaper Alberta company?

Infuriating. If there's a stronger word, I can't think of it right now.

We shouldn't be sending a red fucking cent to that country while the two Michaels are in prison.

The '90s plan to engage with China vis-a-vis economy has utterly failed.

It's time to backtrack and support Canadian companies whenever we can.

Unfortunately the "engage with China" mentality is now a massive industry of it's own. Ranging from the government careerists promoting endless diplomacy to the creation of shareholder profits it's deeply entrenched and isn't going away anytime soon. Jobs-to-China and letting China export crap products to us has made a lot of people very rich and they aren't going to let their golden goose come under any sort of threat by *pffft* changing the laws, ending these horrid trade treaties, or manufacturing things in Western countries.

I bet if it was a Montreal based firm who made a $5.4 million bid on the project, they would have got the contract though.

Funny too, when Ottawa got their utterly crappy LRT system, they had to go with the lowest bidder for fear of being sued even though a Canadian company was in on the bidding.
But when it comes to China, the feds will take them over a lower bid from a Canadian company, presumably because said company can't sue their own govt.

Wow dude, you'll make any excuse for Prince Groper's bullshit, won't you.

Yep, let's kiss the ass of a govt that has all but admitted complicity in Canada's fentanyl crisis, sent us absolute SHIT PPE in return for the top quality stuff we sent them and even goes so far as to interfere in Canadian's freedoms, re: the Pride Parade that was pressured to reneg on the offer to let pro-Honk Kong independence demonstrators join their parade.

You remind me of that half-wit Chamberlain waving a piece of paper and proclaiming "peace in our time" because he naively believed you can negotiate with extremist and authoritarian regimes.
