These coyote attacks didn't make sense to me until I looked into it a bit more. These aren't coyotes, they are coywolves.

A coyote is no more aggresive than a fox. They wouldn't attack a person.

We see coyotes everyday where I walk my dog and they keep their distance. The one time we seen a coywolf, it kept it's distance but it did follow us back to the house. They are substantially bigger than a coyote and like you said, a bit more assertive.

It doesn't take wolves to make coyotes bigger. In the absence of wolves, coyotes move to fill that niche by becoming bigger and packing up, hunting as wolves to. I guess that wouldn't apply to NB. Are there wolves in NB?
