Harper tried to bribe a dying man in order to win a vote. He became PM. Anything is possible.

Embattled Brampton-Springdale MP Ruby Dhalla insists she still has the support of many in the Filipino community despite this week’s recant by the former president of a local seniors organization.
Shortly after Dhalla and her family were accused of mistreating Filipino nannies hired to take care of her mother in her Mississauga home, the MP’s office released letters of support from various members of the community. Among them was a letter signed by Aurora Villanueva, former president of the Brampton Filipino Seniors Club.
However, this week, Villanueva retracted the letter. She reportedly said the letter was written by Dhalla’s office and although she signed it, she was misled by the politician’s staff about the serious nature of the allegations.
According to Villanueva, the letter has resulted in significant backlash within her community.
Dhalla’s office would not answer questions about the latest developments, but issued a written statement in response to the apparent about-face by Villanueva.
“I appreciate Ms. Villanueva’s clarification. However, she is not speaking on behalf of all the Brampton Filipino Seniors Club,” the statement read. “Many members of the Filipino Seniors Club and community have expressed their support in letters, phone calls and e-mails. I appreciate the words of encouragement and support from constituents and Canadians.”
A spokesperson for the club could not be reached for comment.
