I think it's important for anybody who might accidentally stumble on this thread to remember that these Kennedy Kamper, Carano haters here don't represent the majority of people who actually watch The Mandalorian. We love Gina and know she did nothing wrong. the cancel cretins of Cancel culture got her. Now they want to brag about it. Good luck with that, piddling minority.:

Disney is a private entity; they are entitled to hire and fire as they please. Seems like a stupid reason to me. She compared something to Nazis. Well what's new with that? You can't swing a Nazi without hitting somebody--left or right--using tired Nazi comparisons. She sounds like an obnoxious loudmouth so I really don't give a shit about her either way, but all this cancelling is going to blow up big time.

Why? It's the only way to teach some people what it acceptable behaviour. It's not like Disney didn't sit her down and let her know their viewpoint.

The earliest I can remember was Harry Morgan from MASH being called out as a wife beater. He didn't get any acting roles after that, so it's not like this is a new phenomena either.

Yeah I don't know. Axl Rose is the biggest d-bag on the planet, but I'll still spin GnR all night long.

Didn't know about Harry Morgan. I heard the guy that played Radar was a fucktard of Brobdingnagian proportion.

Maybe you're right, but there's an air of zealotry around the whole thing I find disconcerting.

That all depends on who's accepting the behavior. "Acceptance" follows which way the wind is blowing on any given day.

My attitude on entertainers has always been 'I don't give two shits what they do when they aren't entertaining me'. I don't give a rats ass about Kevin Sorbo's politics. I still think 'Andromeda' is one of the best sci-fi series out there.

My company has policies regarding using their time to post on social media, or their name in social media. I am not entitled to speak on behalf of the company, and I am not entitled to refer to them without their permission, except in certain circumstances. If I break these rules, it could mean my job. I get that.

This Caran lady should have seen that the most litigious company had the same attitude when it came to their brand, and STFU if she wanted her lucrative job. It's easy to blame the company, or 'culture' for her firing, but the blame is entirely her own.

I think he lived here in Edmonton for a long time. A local radio used to have 'Radar' alerts when he was spotted riding his bike. I don't know anything about him personally.

That's just how politics has become lately. Thank Twitter/Facebook Al Gore Rhythms for that.

$1:
"This is the left looking to cancel everyone they don't approve of," said Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri, who cited "cancel culture" as a reason publisher Simon & Schuster terminated his book deal after he supported challenges to Joe Biden's presidential victory. "I will fight this cancel culture with everything I have."

The response from the left, however, has been that there's a difference between cancelling someone and holding them accountable for their actions; that free speech is protected from government interference but its abuse has consequences within society.

Parker Malloy of the liberal watchdog group Media Matters for America says that many of the conservative arguments against "cancel culture" are abandoned when the sides are switched and it is liberal words or actions that are found objectionable. She notes Hawley, for instance, celebrated a push to have credit-card companies stop doing business with adult website Pornhub.

"It's OK to believe that social or professional consequences for things said or done are either too harsh or not harsh enough," she writes, "and it's OK to be concerned about the outsized power tech companies like Facebook or Twitter have in the world, but using the framing of 'cancel culture' to make these points will always come off as lazy and cowardly."

No, I'm pretty sure that what Caran did is unacceptable, 27/7/365.

Surely to God, actors are given strict guidelines on social media use by movie companies? If I was making a fortune that way, you’d never see me sharing my thoughts on the world here again, let alone under my own name. There seems to be a profound cultural shift among younger people, where dashing something off on Instagram etc. is seen as more akin to casual speech than publishing the same words in a book. This belief has persisted despite numerous examples of serious consequences for posting objectionable content.

Not really. Any celeb can say or do what they want. There is no "morals clause" in any of their contracts any more. And that's a good thing too, given how many performers in the past were persecuted by the hypocrites running the studios who were engaged in just as much perversion and indecency in their own private activities. Those sorts of things aren't something that should be brought back. It's actually far fairer for a celeb to get lynched in the court of public approval for saying something stupid or doing something awful than leaving a decision on consequences in the hands of some corporate executives operating a star chamber.

We’ve got several topics here, none of which I know much about. On the issue of conduct, I believe many endorsement deals, in sports for example, still carry a version of the old Morals Clause?

$1:
Since then, as a practical matter, any significant endorsement deal – whether in sports, fashion, or any other type of entertainment – will have a Morals Clause provision that is carefully negotiated. In the case of Tiger Woods, caught in 2009 at the other end of a golf club for adultery, both Accenture and TAG Heuer indicated that they had a Morals Clause in their endorsement deals with the PGA Tour phenomenon. Once news of his adulterous behavior reverberated around the world, they pulled their endorsement deals with him, which were generating millions of dollars for Woods every year.

When someone signs an endorsement contract, they are signing a multi-year deal. They are not employees in the way that a studio contract player used to be. When a company pays $50 million or $100 million for the right to use a celebrity’s image, and in most cases, have that celebrity do personal appearances, the Morals Clause is a form of insurance that the celebrity must maintain a positive public image. If his or her image becomes tarnished, then the company has the right to terminate the contract and end the relationship as soon as possible.

However, what I’m talking about here is speech, particularly political speech. What I would like to see, and what may indeed happen to some extent, is fair and clear warning ahead of time about the sort of posts that might get you fired. Many companies already have policies on the use of social media. I presume agents must be advising their clients to be very careful on such platforms? Some of these thespians aren’t the swiftest.

Using a picture of an innocent Jewish woman about to be murdered in a 1941 pogrom and claiming it completely applies today to anyone in any of our idiotic political factions is never acceptable, period.

I actually really like Carano and I sure didn't want her to lose her job. But if she's joined the RWNJ shit-circus and deliberately using imagery from the Holocaust as a comparison to the "oppression" conservatives and Republican, in a sickening attempt to turn themselves into some kind of victims, then she did it to herself. I would have fired her for it too, even more so when all she had to do was delete that particular Tweet and take some time off from social media to let the furor die down. Instead she doubled-down the way all right-wingers always do and she got nailed for it. Too bad for her for being an idiot. No one has to keep a moron on their payroll if they're embarrassing the company by association.

BTW, Steven Soderburgh's Haywire starring Carano, where she memorably murders Michael Fassbender in one hell of a great fight scene, remains one of my favourites of the last decade and I certainly won't "cancel" that movie just to make some rat-fucker SJW's happy either. Ditto too with Deadpool, where Colossus got to see her thicc and mighty bewbs. XD

Disney gets a lot of their revenue from advertising and merchandising rights. You can imagine how much pressure they put on Disney to keep their image clean.
